Japanese protesters demonstrate against the sale of shark fin soup

Protesters in Tokyo have demonstrated against the sale of shark fin soup outside popular Japanese retailer Muji. "The reason we are demonstrating in front of this shop is because we love the Muji brand, and we want to see them change," said organiser Eri Tanaka. "We don't want them to continue following this policy so we chose this place for our protest."

Animal rights groups have called the practice of finning sharks cruel, as the animal is often alive when its fins are removed, and is left to drown when thrown back into the water. Report by Laurie Blake.

The main concern about shark fin soup is the fact that its high demand is decimating the oceans. In the past people used the whole shark (including the fin). Now it is just a wasteful practise. Eating shark fin soup in itself is not bad, but the process of finning and its wastefulness is.

It seems like they are not much supported. Shark Fin is not the ingredient of Japanese food. We consume some, but not that much. Why don't they do it in the red continent of communists? What is the point of doing in Tokyo at the specific company?
