Do you want to learn how to play guitar?
This is Steve Stine's Beginner Guitar Lesson Series created specifically for YouTube, and it offers you the opportunity to learn how to play the guitar for the absolute beginner.

In this guitar lesson, Steve Stine discusses how to properly hold the guitar pick.
Please remember, there are certain things that you will do that are different than Steve's approach, and that's ok as long as they make sense for the bigger picture, but it's worth listening to a different approach, and then make a decision of what is going to work best for you.

In this video series, Steve uses:
Hawk Guitar Picks (TB6)
Martin HD28 Acoustic Guitar
Hughes and Kettner Era 1 Acoustic Amp

This series of guitar lessons for beginners covers topics like: how to tune your guitar, how to hold your guitar, parts of the guitar, how to hold the guitar pick, how to strum, how to play your first guitar chords, how to play songs, learning the notes on the guitar, and so much more.

Mr Steve, I just picked up the guitar with a tutor (in a group of 6 students) and even he didn't take the time to explain these "simple" things as clearly as explained in your first 4 lessons here. Most tutors take it for granted that a beginner knows how to hold a guitar and a pick correctly, I guess. Which is not the case. So thank you, I will keep following you !

Hi steve, i just want you to know that your video is really helping me a lot. I'm just gonna be honest, i'm not a beginner nor a pro. I would say i'm intermediate. But after years i've been playing with my guitar, somehow i cannot reach some fundamentals of it and it's bothering me a lot. I'm frustrated and i just want to stop playing guitar since i think i don't have the talent in it. But it was just my will that is wrong. I'm not determined enough. I made a lot of mistakes and i wanna "re-learn" all the basic back to 0. And then i found your video on my recommendation. I have watched so many video on youtube, but nothing was like you. I can understand everything you said and it was good.. I'm learning again and i'm going to put it all this time.. I just wanna say thanks for your video and i hope you will make more and more great vids out there.. God bless you.. Love from Indonesia..

This is great. I'm stuck in stay at home mode bc of the coronavirus. I've thought for some time about learning to play guitar but never had the time. Now I have plenty of time! Really appreciate your teaching method. Thanks for doing this!

Your teaching style is great. Really encouraging which is helpful because I've noticed a lot of us expect our guitars to sound heavenly while we learn haha.. Anyway I'm glad you mentioned the pick fear because I thought it was just me being a lunatic.

I would add to hold the pick as loosely as you can. Thanks for the video.

Steve: How about how much pick is supposed to protrude(?) from the fingers, the part (point) that strikes the strings. I find myself "digging" I believe because I have too much pick protruding. Playing 2 adjacent strings I miss most of the 2nd one because I'm coming down on the first string with too much angle. My picks (Dunlop Jazz3) seems to be quite pointed also. Look for a more rounded end? Thanks. And I agree, you are the best teacher online.
