The golden rule for every belayer: Never let go of the brake side of the rope!

But what should you do if you need to temporarily go hands-free with a NEOX or GRIGRI while your climber is at rest?

Here’s the quickest and easiest way to do it.

I just take a quick draw and clip the loop on the rope back to my belay loop.

I'm confused, this is literally what you can do with (basically) every belaying device out there? The knot will stop it, even if there isn't a break, and it certainly isn't any different from doing this with a Gri?

I mean.. That works, but why not put a bight through the carabiner and mule it like you would for an atc? Oh sorry, a verso?

I wonder if the Neox could add a latch, a bit like a click up, so that the belayer has to manually unlock the device if it locks up? I still wouldn't go hands free on a click up without a backup, but just another potentially nice bit of safety

What is that helmet? Some new version of sirocco?

Too bad if undwr the load the knot slips all the way to the belay device. That could be a problem

I’d rather take some short roping now and then than being a little less safe when climbing.

Thanks for sharing this. Does the knot serve as a weight to keep that side downward and also a stopper in case of accidental rope slipping?

Literally do this with my atc nothing new can do this with every belay device.

Only do this when there’s NO chance of the rope becoming weighted. If the climber falls it’ll be impossible to give any slack and it’ll be very difficult to untie the knot. Use a proper tie off in those cases

That may have officially sold me out of this product... Why buy a $120 ATC? Wow. Okay.
