I think price is the main factor why diesel outboards are not more popular. They are about double the price of bigger outboards.

Speed can be fixed with a higher pitch prop. It has the torque to turn it.

Fitted out a cox and an ox, both had issues the ox got a full wiring loom replaced and turbo within the first 20 hours customer was dissapointed with it, the ox went better but had issues went back to the supplier

Power to weight ratio mostly. Otherwise the powerband is not an issue with correct gearing and propping.

2000 mercury 200 carb outboard is overheating at full speed only and no mechanic has been able to figure out why. Thermostats, water pump, and poppet valve have already been changed. Thoughts?

The RPM is irrelevant a sharper pitch prop eliminates all of that diesel is all around better in every fashion
