Filament dryers can be a game-changer for 3D printing, especially if you’re dealing with moisture-sensitive materials. In this video, I’ll explain what filament dryers are, how they work, and whether you really need one for your setup.

I’ve been printing for nearly 10 years without one

I'm wondering about the need for one. I'm getting my first 3D printer for Christmas, the Bambu A1. I'll be storing my filament (PLA, PLA Wood, PETG) in a sealed container with plenty of dessicant packets, but how much could be absorbed as I'm printing? If a print takes 16 hours, how much might be absorbed in that time?

Great video man! I was wondering do you just have the A1 mini or do you have any other printers?

As a beginner, I bought my printer having already compiled a long list of items I intended to print. I also live in a very humid area. I came across the moisture issue while reading threads while waiting on my printer. I did promptly order a low price dryer and spare storage container after reading tons of reviews only because being a beginner I dont know that I’ll be printing frequently once my list is completed. So .. if I’m not storing long term, it’s not necessary to dump a ton of money off the bat BUT it is a good idea to have something handy.

I've found the most economical way to dry multiple reels of filament at once. Place the reels with a heated towel rail in a semi-enclosed space. The box keeps in the heat from the mild heat source and allows moisture to escape.

I had my first encounter with moister ruining my prints. Took me a couple more botched prints to figure out the reason. I just assumed it was a clog at first. I went ahead and bought the cheapest 40 dollar Sovol 2 spool dryer on amazon. I do need to dry a lot more materials at the same time, but I think i'm going upgrade to the AMS2 (with the built-in drier) for my P1S eventually when it goes on sale. That thing looks too convenient to pass up, and I might get another H2D if there are any sick deals in the next 2 years haha.

Would love to see a video of you making your own filament dryer.

I’ve had that thought of “Omg I need to spend money on another thing??” Since getting my 3d printer multiple times. More-so because I’m using it to make props, so I need to buy all the tools and paints to make that possible. But I got so desperate with random printing issues, even after calibrating multiple times, that I was willing to pay anything to fix it. Trying my first print now after using a filament dryer, I guess I’ll see if it was the magic bullet for my problems. Thank you for your explanation too, I didn’t quite get how they worked.
Also, mine has a spot for silica gel packets in the bottom. Of the humidity is supposed to escape through the top, what are they needed for? And do I need to buy more?

Just got my very first filament dryer, and I’m a bit confused about how the % humidity works. I notice it rises but never seems to drop. I purchased the newer dual Comgrow SH02 Dry Box dryer. Any tips or insights would be appreciated!

I'm trying to print carbon fiber nylon and after the first layer it just becomes a stringy mess. My printer will not maintain a 240C nozzle even with specific settings.

You never made that video on which dryer you recommend, I'm definitely interested though honestly I'm wondering if I just return/sell my PETG and get some ABS and don't even worry about it.

As a complete beginner to this- i just got bambu a1 mini with the combo that you can out up to 4 spools….but the dryer you mentioned that holds four rolls can also connect to the tubes- so then I wouldn’t be using the asm (whatever it is called that holds the 4 rolls on side of printer)?

A question that I had about the S4 and have not been able to get a good answer to is, if I am not feeding my X1C directly from the S4, should I not install the PTFE tubes into the S4? And, if not, should I use the provided plugs to plug all or any of the holes in the S4 and keep them there while it is drying or storing filament?

Hi, Great vid. I have a question regarding smell of PLA/PETG during printing. Due to my small space at home I am concerned about smell during printing. I don’t want to expose my fam to smell and pollution. Can you share any experience here? Thx bro, hugs from Germany 👍🏻

The man spent more time in this video saying “filament dryer” then explaining the products…
