Ili Pika

The Ili Pika, scientifically known as Ochotona iliensis, is a small mammal found in the Tianshan Mountains of Northwestern China. Discovered in 1983, this adorable creature is known for its round body, short limbs, and dense fur. It inhabits rocky slopes and alpine meadows, surviving on a herbivorous diet. The Ili Pika is primarily diurnal and constructs haypiles for food storage. Unfortunately, this species is endangered, with a population estimated to be fewer than 1,000 individuals. Climate change, habitat degradation, and human activities pose significant threats. Conservation efforts, including research, public awareness, and protected areas, are crucial for the long-term survival of the Ili Pika and the preservation of its unique alpine habitat.
