it's great that you're breaking the individual techniques out like this. It's the first actually *good* use of shorts I've seen!

Also, these are where I'm getting stuck on this as a novice:
- starting a saw cut where I want it to be
- getting an even depth on the cuts, especially on the corners, when the goal is a round tenon on a face I can't see. I guess I should be using a speed square to draw 45° lines tangent to the circle, then carry them down the faces? Is there a faster way other than "git gud"? (not saying that anyone is saying that)

This is a nice tutorial.
I did a bunch of these and found an amazing time saving trick. I used a 30mm plug cutter in conjunction with my pillar drill. It took a couple of hours to get all the set up just right, but after that i made 2 dozen perfect round tennons that fit just perfectly with the 30mm holes.

I've been making a lot of these lately for a barstool set. The chisel works great, but my tennons were 4", and my grain wasnt quite straight. A spoke shave and cabinet scraper have been more productive for tuning them in for me.

Doing something like this was my first hand work project and i did it to make a shelving system for my TV in my new apartment. Super cool to see i did it the same way 3 weeks ago when i only just saw this video technique today!

Personally i find it easier to plumb a line than keeping it plumb while removing material. So for stuff like this i will remove the bulk and then carve out a nice exact circle (or whatever shape) just on the end 1/4" or so and then all i gotta do is plumb down on a bunch of spots and smooth it out

I've never done any woodworking in my entire life but I watch every video you post😂🤣😂🥰

I have a question for you Rex. Love your video. I did a mash between the minimum timber bench and another of your designs, and I love it.
My question is: as someone who learns woodworking from YouTube, when do you know that a board is flat enough? I see you in your videos that you say that is perfectly flat. Does that mean you see no light at all under the flat edge? Can you go in more detail in a short/video?

It's always best to sand it down again after you put the hardwood mold on it. As the woodfibers get squished down and wouldn't absorb the woodglue as good. You sand it down so it gets thinner a bit but the restoration of the fibers wil compensate for that!

was that an oscillator blade for a planing stop?! excellent idea!

please teach us one about a round stool leg, with this round tenon, and shoulders angled so that the stool leg spreads out.

Reminds me of the rustic stool I made using your video. First woodworking project complete 😅

As a non-woodworker, this may be dumb question but, is this easier or harder with different species of wood?

Also, Lee Valley makes a tool that you can use in a brace. It’s very much like a giant pencil sharpener.

I have an attachment for my brace that makes round tenons in a variety of sizes. Flea market find. I have done it this way though.

That's how you make a square peg fit in a round hole

I’ve only made a few tenons myself, so may be wrong, but Wouldn’t burnishing a tenon make it slip out easier without the friction of slight roughness helping to hold in place? And if glue is being used is burnishing not closing the wood’s pores that would absorb that glue?

I'm sure it helps to be able to sharpen your tools, unlike some of us who just can't afford a decent sharpening system that I can make work properly. LOL

I'm interested in your chisel brand?? I've seen those 35 years ago, but, never seen for sale??

You'd only use this where you don't care much about tortion resistance, correct?

What are your thoughts on making tapered tenons/mortises without a reamer or a tenon cutter?
