We have a new tradition here at Missouri Star: Triple Play! Once a month, Jenny, Misty, and Natalie each demonstrate their own, unique take on a specific block, technique, or template. This week these talented Doan ladies are demonstrating three new ways to use the magnificent Half Hexi template.

Natalie's "Half Hexagon Links" is made with 2.5 inch strips of precut fabric (jelly rolls). She used Floralicious Batiks Strips by Kathy Engle for Island Batik.

Misty's "Half Hexi Whirligigs" is made with 10 inch squares of precut fabric (layer cakes). She used an Abby Rose Layer Cake by Robin Pickens for Moda Fabrics. This pattern does require y-seams, but you'll be surprised just how fun and simple they are! Misty also created an adorable little whirligig table runner using the same technique!

Jenny's "Half Hexagon Boats and Braids" is made with 10 inch squares of precut fabric (layer cakes). She chose Lemon Grass Batiks Stacks by Kathy Engle for Island Batik. This quilt is filled with little sailboats and bordered with an easy hexi braid.

All 3 quilts are great! I made Jenny's "big boat" quilt a long time ago, and I love this new one, and the blue/green fabric really makes it shine.

Thank you for the delightful evening I've had with you gals! LOVE the sailboat best of all. Who knew so much could be done with that simple little hexagon? I'll go make coffee after our visit!

Reading the comments, I think it’s unanimous everyone is loving the triple play tutorials‼️ I loved all the quilts and table runner and especially loved the hexi braid border. I’m definitely going to add that border on a quilt! So glad I already have those rulers! Thanks ladies and MSQC.

I like all 3 quilts, but the one I LOVE is Jenny's. It's probably because I live right on the shores of Lake Erie and we see boats all the time in the warm months. Or maybe it's because my Great Grandfather was First Mate on a schooner in Lake Superior. Whatever the reason, I just LOVE Jenny's boats!

Oh, this video did my heart wonders. Seeing Jenny on the mend, obviously feeling more of her effervescent self, with the giggles, singing, smiles all round. Thank you again for all you do, and I'm sure most of will agree it's not just the wonderful quilts and products you bring us, it's the joy and laughter and love we all cherish most.
