This week we are giving you an update on our 9 month old fully electric MG5 that's covered 41,000 miles.
We are often told that electric cars are not fit for purpose and definitely can't cover high mileage as we are. We hope you enjoy it.

67, 000 miles on a std range in 18 months all good. In use as a taxi.
I have shared this video on both the MG5 facebook grouo and the taxi drivers facebook group too.
Had argumemts over the lack of brake wear with some facebook keyboard mechanics. ;)

I bought the MG5 LR after watching one of James reviews a few months ago gotta say this headline got me super worried 😟 but after watching total joy 😊. I've clocked 4000 miles now love the car it's a joy to drive I enjoy the whole ev experience including stopping having coffee with a charge, and thanks to James for getting me excited that pushed me to go buy one. Looks like I was also quite lucky to just get one as quickly as I did as well and in the colour I wanted. No problems yet just the squeaky mirror.

Had ours just over a year, love it, so cheap to run, I don't know why all the car reviewers say it boring, we think it looks great and performs really well. Our mirror squeaks in hot weather also. Love your show

James must be unique in his expertise in reviewing, driving, owning and maintaining EVs. If James is praising the MG5 like this, that's enough for me.

Great to see this 9 month, 41k mile update. Nice clear and concise presentation. I look forward to seeing future updates in the years to come as Cleverly continues to operate this EV.

12 month old MG5 SW Exclusive and I've done 35k miles. Same experience as yourself driving it, it really is comfortable, it just goes and goes.
Only 2 issues, one is a design prob, the rain/light sensor box in the front windscreen blocks 25% of your view, especially turning left and I hate it.
2nd issue happened just last week, HV battery disconnect and a host of other faults. Nothing I did would clear it and ended up having to get the AA. AA guy says there's a software update to fix this issue. No faults showing on the odb2 but he cleared it anyway and in his words "hey presto" the car sprang back to life.
oops forgot, one of my drl's has failed.

Bought my MG5 Exclusive SR January 2021, here it is end of July 2022 & just under 10k on the clock & like you I absolutely love my car, as a long range tourer it's fantastic, set cruise control to 60 mph & a range of 200 miles between charging can be achieved. A recent holiday over a month saw me travelling 1684 miles with a recharge cost of £143.00 GBP.
My wife & I are both pensioners & looking at the cost of fuel are so glad that we got the car when we did. £3k from the government, £4k from MG, £1k trade in on my old car plus an interest free loan from the energy Saving Trust.
We live in the top end of North East Scotland so getting to England is quite a distance (well it would be in an ICE car.)
The only problem we had was with a public charger in Dumfries and Galloway when we changed it up to 95% & we got error messages about the HV battery and the car was completely dead, leaving it for about an hour we came back & everything was ok, since then we only charge 85% at public chargers but upto 100 % on our wallbox.
This car is also a sleeper!! even in eco mode it goes like a bat out of hell with a heavy right foot.

Seeing so many of these around the country as cabs and every one I’ve been in has been praised by the driver for comfort and reliability. We have the zs EV and are tempted by the facelift 5 next time.

My Mum and Dad have one and they love it. It replaced their Saab 95 estate and they are 100% happy with it.

Got the MG5 Exclusive in Dec last year brand new. Done about 5k miles so far but love the car, in fact I would say it’s my fav car I have owned. Had no issues at all, and this weekend will be putting on a roof box for first time.

Had my MG5 since Dec 2021 & just coming up to 9800 trouble free miles. I had a Zoe before it ( my first ev) and as good as the Zoe was the MG is way better. I agree with you James, I think the car is probably the best car I’ve owned and is certainly the most comfortable (for me) long distance tourer I’ve ever had. I have this car as a result of your review and decided to go and take a look at one and was sold on it as soon as I took a test drive. Really enjoy the videos you both produce. BTW, I also have the same squeak on the door mirror when it folds!

I got my MG nearly 2 yrs ago and it hasnt missed a beat. Done almost 24k now and not 1 thing gone wrong with it. I have solar panels, cheap Octopus tariff and live in an area with free charging (West Lothian in Scotland) and have spent less than £150 in charging it since new (and most of that was a trip to England) . Superb car. I also got a 0% loan from Scottish Government to buy it and half price home charger. Why anyone would buy a petrol car now I have no idea. Happy Days.

Watched this update after the 51k version just for fun and love listening to you wax lyrical. Like you say, MG seen oblivious to the quality and performance they’ve achieved for the money. Every comment is positive and it’s so good to read through, unlike the negativity one can witness online.

Bought ours in Sept last year. Only 7k so far, but loving every mile. Just quoted under £40 fir its first service by the supplying dealer, so no complaints there either. Keep the updates coming - great channel to follow. (I still want to get it on the dragstrip, but she who must be obeyed says No!)

Dear James. Glad you are having such a good time with the MG. I nearly brought one earlier this year. Unfortunatly rising prices out ran my savings . Instead I brought a 38kwh Ioniq with 7500 miles on it. Frankly it has been a bit of a reliability nightmare. Within 48hrs of getting it a "Check E.V System" light appeared resulting in a new traction battery. Then on its return the 12V battery failed even before I picked it up from the dealers. ( All replaced under warranty). Then the charge cable locking unit failed. It went in for offical diagnoses yesterday and new parts orderd.( Strangely it still charged perfectly on both AC and DC). Finally this morning when I fired it up the dreaded "Check E.V System" light was back and a BMS fault showing on the BlueLink diagnostics. Its back at the dealership now waiting to be looked at.
Honestly I could cry!! . Can some one cheer me up please

I have the MG5 standard range and it's a great car. Before I retired I worked on a few different EV's, and although the MG isn't the most tech filled vehicle, for value for money it can't be beaten. The only thing that bugs me is not being able to lay my hands on proper workshop manuals or diag machine, but other than that i'm very happy with it..

Hi all, my MG5 Excite low range is just over a year old! 12000 miles as I use it to commute to Royal Mail centres for EV Van training. I do really love driving it and the economy is fantastic. There have been two instances when the screen went blank for no reason! Just shut off and waited for a couple of minutes then all restarted, no problem. I weigh 18st and have found that the driver’s seat has flattened out a little. I would like the passenger seat to be lower or adjustable as it’s tricky for taller passengers to access. First full service less than £100 and includes full AA membership renewal! Get so many compliments on the dynamic Red finish, have used the car as a load Luger many times and drove it to Aberdeen on holiday, no issues. Thanks for a great video again James, keep up the good work!

Had one for 15 months and agree with all James said - mine has done 18, 000 miles and has just been drama free. I too have the squeaky mirror - I sorted the driver’s side but the squeak has now moved to the passenger’s.

We are on our 2nd MG 5, sold our original SR 5 privately and bought a 5 LR in March on an Affinity deal.
It has done 5700 miles including a couple of thousand on a holiday to Ireland.
Love the car, it has to be the best value for money out there and has been flawless.
Minor niggle is the squeaky folding mirrors.
We also have a 20 plate ZS EV and wish I had sold that instead of the 5 SR, I much prefer driving the 5.

Absolutely agree 😁 owned one since Nov 20 covered 24000 miles no issues at all still drives as the day I collected it. Acceleration still puts a smile on my face, the MG5 is a quiet relaxing easy to drive EV. I will be looking at the new facelift version soon.
