The energy is calmer. Modern movies actually activate nervous energy in my body. Thank you for sharing this.

Highly recommend “Little Bear”!!! Peak childrens show. Does not reward misbehaving or limit attention spans

One thing we learned with raising our 4 daughters
Is something we called, Couch time, when my husband and I sat together on the sofa in the evenings before bedtime and we had a quiet time together as a family whether it was a movie, , reading a book together or listening to music, it made the girls able to go to sleep and they would sleep all night long without having nightmares, ,
It's important what you watch, read and the music you listen to, it effects everyone's behavior... but also the kids having time with both parents helps them in their attitudes, behaviors and development
It gives them the sense of stability comfort and security
I love the older movies and cartoons, they tend not to be like today's movies and TV shows, they had family values more than now ..

The best modern show for kids, imo, is Bluey. It’s generally centered around the family as a whole and explains life lessons simply and kindly enough for kids to understand. I feel like it teaches kids good morals on how to treat other people, how to think before you react, etc.

Length of shot. Older movies and tv shows tend to feature long camera, whereas modern ones are all rapid cuts. The rapid cuts affect attention and ramp up behaviours. Plus there's a sweetness to a lot of old movies (although you have to be careful with outdated steretypes and embeddes sexism and racism)

The other day I was reminiscing on my old theatre days and sang “If I were a rich man” to my 11 year old sister. She asked to hear more songs from the show and ended up listening to the whole soundtrack on her own and keeps pestering our mom to listen to the soundtrack on the way to school. Sometimes there’s a reason classics are classics

Julie Andrews is a wonderful role model for so many children to look up to and music we learn as children stays with us through life. I grew up with my grandmother watching sound of music, Mary Poppins etc and I always will cherish those pure happy moments. No agendas are pushed only manners, kindness, and empathy were taught. I believe Mary Poppins had such a foundational impact on me that my customer service voice sounds like Mary Poppins that's just who I learned to be articulate, and use a charming sweet voice to win others over like she did. Lol. It works!❤

Because it has been proven in studies that newer shows movies like stuff after the early 2000s even, are designed and made to be colorful, loud and overstimulating, to keep your child’s attention. But older shows and movies weren’t designed like this and were purely for entertainment and had good story. In short, though both are designed to entertain, older movies and shows kept your attention with story, character, and charm. The new stuff, just overstimulates you and your children, and shows bad things/habits to children with reward. But most sad of all most modern movies are so lackluster in story and in design, there is no heart, no soul, and hardly any wonder.

EDIT:
Thank you all for the comments and opinions! I just wanna make it clear that I am only stating what studies have said what I have heard. I would appreciate it if we could just ignore Phillip or anyone who just wants to start argument in the replies. All I wanted was to just leave a comment with this information. Nothing more.
Again thank you. 😊

Also I wanted to note, that I don’t think all new movies are lackluster. I’m mostly referring to Disney and the way they have become less magical. I agree that Pixar is probably the only real good ones out there besides a couple exceptions. I also agree that Bluey is an amazing show. I was merely just stating that there has been a significant growth of not great shows, or writers and big companies not taking the time or care to make a good show or movie. There are still many good shows for children.

I am 65 and I remember every year I couldn't wait until it was time for our whole family to sit down and watch, The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, The Wizard of Oz, and the Christmas classics! We didn't have movie rentals back then, we had to wait for it to come on TV!

If you want a modern kids show that's great for her, I suggest Little Einsteins. It used to be on Disney Channel. It features a piece of classical music and a piece of art in each episode. Watch an episode to see if you might want to introduce her to it. I discovered it because I would only allow educational shows for my daughter (like Word World or Super Why on PBS) and, as a teacher to littles, I put this on during quiet time (just a calming period after lunch and lunch recess) to refocus them. It works great!!

Cuz a lot of newer shows show kids misbehaving and that behavior getting rewarded for the sake of a joke or a plot. Older shows don’t. Even when I was younger I wasn’t allowed to watch certain shows cuz of the behavior rewarded

It's your energy, too. If this takes you to a happy place it'll probably bring them along! 💛
