Has your iPhone ever dropped to one percent and then stayed there without turning off for a suspiciously long time? Well, there’s a reason for this that I'll explain in this video.

This is actually a really good question, I’ll always remember my iPhone SE (1st Gen) lasting 4h on 1% whereas it dropped from 20 to 1 in a heartbeat

You have to give this guy credit for creating these easy to understand videos that aren’t 10 minutes long.

The BEST moment of relief is when you get your phone to the charger when its at 1%

Apple also explained many years ago that their algorithm "mask" the higher 5% and lower 5% of battery capacity as the phones and computers will cycle through very small charges and discharges to maintain battery health when plugged, and people would tend to think there's a problem with the phone it it went from 100% to 95% while plugged in.
For the lower part, it was also due to batteries really not liking being fully discharged. Indicating the 1% level sooner that expected would push people to recharge earlier, thus effectively preventing some of the battery decay.

I always had a theory that the 1% battery life was that it was more a of psychological trick on the users. Naturally, the iPhone doesn't want to run it's battery out and die, so it "tricks" the user into thinking they have 1% when really they may have +-5%. This will discourage the user from using the phone until they can at least plug in for a little top-up and avoid completely dying. The explanation in this video makes much more sense, but I have a feeling my theory may not be far off. I know that I'm definitely less inclined to even check my lock screen for the time if I know I'm on 1%.

The scenario 100->90 going faster than 30->20 you're talking about is mostly applicable to "after using the phone in low temperatures". In most other scenarios it will be opposite.

The 2-3min style is really appreciated with declining attention spans (and counterintuitively most other YTvids crossing 10min mark too)

Last week I was camping in the cold and went to bed with my phone at 67%. Woke up and it was at 13%, makes sense.

Funy, because I had such experiance mostlly at 3% it feels it stays 3% for hours. But when my iPhone 8 is at 24 or 25% it would drop to 20% just while I write a text like this.

I wonder when does your phone seems to keep the % forever.

Here’s a funny thing. Why does your phone run slower in the cold? I remember one time I accidentally left my android Samsung phone in the car and it was like freezing temperature. I went out there and I feel like the apps were slow to load and definitely the movement on the screen was very slow and blurry but I chalked that up to being liquid crystal display

My first iPhone was an iPhone 6, it was handed down to me and was 6 years old, the battery was terrible and the phone was heavily damaged. Yet, when I was on a drive the battery drained down to 1% and remained on and working for over an hour on 1%

One time in the US my mum was using her iPhone 7 to get back to the apartment we were renting. So we had gone to a new place and didn’t know the directions back. I had been using her hotspot and the iPhone went from 20 to 3%. With my casual disregard for getting home in one piece I continued to use the hotspot. My mum noticed when it was at 1% percent and took it from me super stressed we were going to get lost. That 1% lasted the 45 minutes it took to get back along with the GPS on and was still on when she got it to charger.

Once my ipad was at 6% and magically went up to 7% and it wasn’t plugged in lol . This explains it

If you wanna keep your battery health up allowing your battery to last longer / more years keep your charge level between 20-90% . Use low power / power saver @40% or lower. Lithium based batteries will last way longer used like this compared to running dry and juicing up to 100%.

I never let the battery drain below 25 or 30. But good to know. Nice video👍

You’re missing the fact iOS intentionally reduces frame rate and CPU clock to make it last longer so you can finish a task or reach ppl in emergency.
