TIME FOR WORK, B*TCH! (Obscure 1960s soul music)

Today, we have yet another newly rediscovered AI classic from the great Virgil Watson, brother of famed icon Reginald Watson, and an icon in his own right. This 1967 gem was Virgil's second major single after "I Ain't Doin' It, B*tch". This track was dropped the same exact week and Reginald's single, "Time To Smack A B*tch" and the two fought for chart dominance for weeks on end. Before their eventual reconciliation later in life, the heated rivalry between the two brothers was stuff of legend, involving many downright dirty and underhanded tactics, sabotaging of each other's releases and events, etc. The two reconciled later in life thanks to their ultimate bonding over their like minded views on women, and their many marriages. When Reginald was tried for the murder of his seventh wife (a crime he maintained he was innocent of until his dying day), Virgil was front row at the trial every single day, and spoke of his brother's gentle and giving nature on the stand, as well as his near god-like moral compass. Today, we again honor this icon of soul music. RIP.

Lyrics:

Ooh, I'm a decent man and I be doin' all's I can baby, mmm yeah I always respect me a real stand-up lady

See, I was raised with that firm moral center, I'm a hard workin' fella, yeah I'm a real go-getter

But honey, lately you been startin' to wear on my nerves, spoutin' off at that mouth bout some stupid bullsh*t you think be the end of this world

Mmm, lord I's always worked myself to the bone, providin' for your ass and upkeepin' this here home

But baby, it be time for a big change, 'bout time for my ass to ditch this workin' man game

Yeah, your mouth done got outta control and them looks done took a turn for the worse, so now I'm thinkin this workin' sh*t done lost its worth

I be tryin' to catch me some relaxin' time, but here your ass come with a list of sh*t needin' done and of course it all be mine

Bills needin' paid, roof needin' fixed, a leaky ass sink, woman it's like you think I be a servant at your beck and call for everything

But ooh, lemme tell ya them days they be comin' to an end, cause I'm 'bout to be livin' free and takin' it easy from here on in

And yeah, you know that means only one thing honey

It's time for work, b*tch (time to get to work, b*tch)

All that sh*t needin' done, yeah it ain't my problem, now you best put on a name-tag or find your ass a bank and gets to robbin'

Yeah, I said it's time for work, b*tch

See, cause once upon a time I was the man of this here house, but from now on baby I'm just a man laid up on this here couch

Mmm, I done told my boss he can blow these balls, I'm 'bout to finally commit to doin nothin' and I be ready to give it my all

Yeah, I know I's always paid them bills and handled all these problems, but baby it's 'bout time you see what it be like to be the one to solve 'em

Them days of you stayin' at home and bein' a do-nothin' wife, well that sh*t be over honey, 'cause I done had myself a lifetime of that workin' life

Comin' in that door after a 12 hour day, first thing I hear is whatever your blabbermouth been dyin' to say

Yeah, I'm done with it baby, so I suggest you gets to learnin' how to patch that roof and gets ready to be a workin' lady

Lord, woman can't you see I've had it up to here?

Now quit that yappin' and go fetch this man a beer

Ooh, them looks they done fell off and that face done hit that wall

So baby I'm done bein' your safety net, yeah you's 'bout to be payin' it all

Yeah, this house can go to hell and them bills can go unpaid, but from now on my ass gonna stay right here where it lay

The most progressive man of the 1960s. Virgil Watson pioneered for women in the workplace.

This Virgil Watson classic inspired my Dad to stop being a depressed workaholic. Virgil empowered him to retire and put my Mom to work. The family has been better off ever since.

Virgil Watson was a legend in his own right. He didn't give women the pimp hand as much as his brother... the greatest man to ever live, Reginald Watson, but he sure kept his women in line. Just like Reggie, women loved him; men wanted to be him. The two brothers were real pillars of the anti-feminist movements in the late 60s and 70s. Real men of the patriarchy and real men of the book. The greatest Christian men to ever live. Today, we celebrate their amazing legacy with some Virgil Watson himself.

A friend of mine used to be a civil engineer until he met his wife and had kids. Since then, he's been a stay-at-home dad while she's been out working full time. I've gotta ask him if he was inspired by Virgil Watson

I cook, clean and put out.

10/10 for all the effort I put in.

Edit: I did the dishes three times today!

Edit 2: Did laundry twice. *_By HAND!_*

The worst thing to happen to a woman when she is dating or married to a Watson or most artists from the Forgotten Grooves channel is for her looks to fall off.

Very much a Frankie Lymon and Lewis Lymon type dynamic between the two. Except no one was entirely sure who their mothers

Man, Virgil's silky voice and his heartfelt lyrics really speaks to me. Did Reginald write this classic tune, by any chance?
