Uglies(2024) Ending + Predictions Explained - Why This Movie Feels Like It Will Have A Sequel?

The premise of Uglies is adapted from Scott Westerfeld's popular young adult series of the same name and centres around a future society where everyone is forced to undergo cosmetic surgery to fit a rigid standard of beauty. But of course, all that beauty and perfect health comes at a cost, a cost that feels heavier than the benefits it provides. Directed by Joseph McGinty Nichol, aka McG, who is also known for helming the 2000 film Charlie’s Angels, tries his best to breathe life into Westerfeld’s novel and succeeds in most parts. But this is not a review video, so I will cut to the chase. In this video, I will first brief you about the world of Uglies and how it works, before exploring the major conflict between the good guys and the bad guys, which is indispensable to have a comprehensive understanding of the ending and the other burning questions that the film left us with. So, without further ado, let’s begin.

As someone who was in his early teens during the 2010s YA dystopian craze, this film takes me back. Has a lot of the same vibes from those films. Heck, even the poster gives me Divergent flashbacks. Frankly, this film’s biggest problem is that it came a decade too late. Feels like this film is from 2014, not 2024.

I liked it! Hopefully we’ll get the sequels. Now I have to find and read the books.

Hey I loved the books. And his came out before other fantasy / dystopian type movies like maze runner and hunger games, divergent and so on.
This was the beginning. I hope this movie lives up too its name.
But yeah even in the boom the adults are pretty flat. Which makes sense

It might get sequels or so they hope. I tried it I don't like it, it had 5 feels from book but no deeper impact on me. Am rereading book. Movie is too short a format they wrecked it and I'm Soo not a fan of cast. Dr cable and specials were supposed to look predatory and dangerous and I just Dr cable didn't feel right to me and tally being wishy washy cuz she's a clueless 15 year old was not believable cuz they had no time for character development. The book says when they look at pretty they get a warm fuzzy feeling like they want to please the pretty or don't want to harm them. So basically after surgery they aren't just pretty, it's like a almost vampire effect on a human. I say almost because I don't know if it's highly costume or stylized world like hunger games or a lil more real looking, either way flow, character dev and cable were eh

I waited sooo long for this movie and was sooo disappointed. The lack of character development, the many changes to the original story, the acting, and the fact that it seemed so rushed despite having almost 2 decades to get it right.
I was so happy that one of my fave YA novels finally made it to the screen, but now I'm so sad that they fucked it up. 😔
Hopefully in about another decade or so they decide to remake it into a series or something that will allow for more detail and development...kind of like what they did with Daredevil

I wish they took the time for us to learn more about the characters, the pacing was WAY too fast. I couldn’t comprehend much because it was way too fast

In general, the film is complete crap and cringe. BUT! Fuck, maybe the author is a genius and this ending is not with a sequel, but the final one. She had fun, deceived everyone and in the end got what she wanted (I really doubt it of course) how much better the film would have been if the main character was not just a rebel but thought everything through so that she could seize power herself
1) she was the only one who learned to cheat the system (what she did with the ring)
2) her dream to be loved
3) when she found out that beautiful people have no feelings, she should have understood that he could not give her a "friendship" visit
also the medicine restores the ability to feel, it won't make you look same so after getting operation just need take medicine and be cool
