I am a 3D-Artist and CPU-Renderer and the 7970x would be my dream CPU, but for this price i can buy 2 PCs with Ryzen 7950x. The second PC can be used as render node and backup PC. The cost, if anything breaks down makes this threadripper systems just unaffordable for me. In my country the Ryzen 7950x with ProArt X670 Mobo costs me 1000$... the Ryzen 7970x with the beautiful AERO TRX50 would cost me 3800$. So 4x the price for only +40% multicore performance and no backup PC. I think 1400$ would be an ok price for the threadripper 7970x. But for the actual insane price of 2800$ i can buy a whole i13900K System with Mobo, GPU, RAM etc. BUT if i would make a lot more money as a 3D-Renderer, the Threadripper would be a nobrainer.

I have a 7965WX just sitting around waiting for the WRX90 boards to drop. It was nice to see this video to get a inkling of what I might see with it. I am really looking forward to seeing these high speed RDIMMs run in 8 channel mode though.

Be interesting to compare this with the 24 core but considering the difference in clock boost is minimal it probably wont make a huge difference. Might get to build one of these for a client, looking forward to playing with it before we turn it over to him if he does.

Wow this gen Threadripper is genuinely impressive ! I just wish they came out sooner with it as so much time has passed since Ryzen or Epic Zen 4 came out, its always a bummer waiting for Threadripper this long...

Thank you I got this ordered a week ago can’t wait to build my first PC after years of working on a Mac laptop 🙄

16:30 The 14th gen Intel core 9 chip absolutely decimates it. That can't be right!

This is the first review dedicated to the Threadripper 7970x that I have heard of.
It's a nice Cpu, the only one that for me that maintains contact with reality, given that the 16 x 4.8 Gh cores of my 5950x compile 10 Gb software in a matter of minutes, and it's not like I really need more then that... but... it's so beautiful! 4 channels! The apotheosis of multitasking; 128 or 256 GB of RAM would be enough for me, no more. I would have to liquid cool everything, like on mine (Cpu, Gpu, Ram, Nvme, in semi-parallel), and that's where the money comes out in rivers! I don't think it's possible to put it together, in Italy, for less than 10, 000 euros, and it's not small change in my pocket, but you have a computer that is truly a love of technology.
Thank you!

You said the IPC of Zen 4 is so much better because of the Blender results vs Xeon. No. That's false. You fail to take into account the difference in all-core clock speeds. The all-core clock speed of the Xeon is way lower than that of Threadripper. What you actually had to say is that the performance per watt as well as performance per dollar of the Threadripper cpu is much better than the Xeon. Please try to be more accurate in your statements as people with less knowledge can be misled. You don't want to be a source of misinformation. I am saying all these with a friendly attitude. I like your content and benchmarking.

Will you ever review the 7800xt gpu? I can't find any reviews anywhere about how it works for video editing. The card seems extremely popular for gamers as being one of the best for buck cards so I'm sure there must be other content creators who are interested in it for similar reasons.

Thank you for this test. The 7970x is incredible in 8k and 4k, but in the video the percent in DaVinci Resolve is wrong at the 14900k as this is not 24% faster in 4k than the 7970x, but the score is right.
So, the potential of the 7980x in 4k and 8k with the right drivers should be skyrocketing and higher than the 7970x! But my budget is too low for that, I hope that the coming 8950x (what is in my budget) will come close to that score, but I think this won't happen.

Much better :-)... Great job!!! I hope I didn't come off too critical of the old version. Love your channel.

There’s one obvious issue… TR 7000 motherboards are not available, technically the platform doesn’t exist in retail so the comparison doesn’t really matter. Also price cuts to Intel are coming together with Emerald rapids.

The Ryzen held up better than I thought. Of course the TR is amazing

AMD doesn’t use a 5nm node vs Intel 10nm. You fell for TSMC’s marketing which is what prompted Intel to change their naming scheme. Continuing calling Intel 7 with its old name (10nm) while at the same time you call TSMC’s nodes with their marketing names (7nm, 5nm, etc) creates the impression that Intel is two nodes behind while they are just one. For clarity here is the equivalency of nodes.
TSMC 12nm=TSMC 16nm++=Intel 16nm (hypothetical)
TSMC 10nm=Intel 14nm++
TSMC 7nm=Intel 10nm SF
TSMC 7nm+=Intel 10nm ESF= *Intel 7*
TSMC 5nm/4nm=Intel 7nm= *Intel 4*
TSMC 3nm=Intel 7nm+++= *Intel 3*
TSMC 2nm=Intel 5nm= *Intel 20A*

Interesting: A CPU (mainboard-combo) that is 5 to 10 times as expensive, but just 2-3 times as fast, is overpriced. At least for my application this makes absolutly no sense. I am better off with the Intel i9. Thanks for the insights...
