Excellent overview! Using the original music list in Beyond the Mirror Image, plus comparing the blu ray to the R1 and R2 releases, I wasn't able to spot ANY of the music replacements at all, so if anything was changed it was extremely minor. I also noticed such a stark quality difference with the coloring, since the original Universal DVDs used crummy masters with an ugly yellow tint (esp. Honeymoon Express and So Help me God). I did notice some color corrections that weren't present, such as the blue tint from the graveyard scenes in Portrait for Troian, but nothing that was overly distracting.

"Quantum Leap" was one of the few shows from my childhood, that I still enjoy for the most part as an adult. I was too young to get most of the jokes back then, and now that I'm older there's a few jokes I wish I didn't understand. Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell were phenomenal together on that show, and I was blessed to meet Mr. Stockwell at a Dallas convention several years ago. I asked what his favorite episode was from each season, but he said his memory was fading due to his age. He did mention "The Last Gunfighter" though, saying it was an episode he truly enjoyed being a part of.

By far my absolute favorite episode is "The Americanization of Machiko". I watched the episode when it aired when I was very young. Too young to understand most of the story but I remember being sad for Machiko. I remember it had such a huge impact on me. I didn't know what "moe" was back then. Technically the label of "moe" for that character type didn't even exist back then. And it wouldn't be until almost 20 years later that I had a chance to watch this episode again and I was blown away at how "moe" Machiko is in this story. In Japanese culture many people say that "moe" is named after Tomoe (Sailor Pluto) from Sailor Moon but Sailor Moon was early 90s. Here is an example of a very "moe" character that predates Sailor Moon. Machiko was "moe" before "moe" was "moe"! It's a very Japanese thing that was captured here in this episode that shows a character type that would be very popular in Japanese anime and movies for at least the next 30+ years. A popular character type being shown in the anime bubble in Japan that is completely separate from American TV, except for this ONE episode of Quantum Leap. Mind blowing that this kind of Japanese cultural elements was captured so well in this episode of an American TV show! Especially at this time in the past. There was a lot of great work put into this episode. And just to top it off, the reason why I am still so interested in Japanese language and culture all these years later, is partially because of this episode in Quantum Leap. This episode is why I go back and revisit quantum leap from time to time. Just to remember and get that kick in the feels. But also I have gained a greater understanding of Japanese language and culture over the years that pass between each time I revisit it. I feel like I understand something new that I always missed before.

I caught QL in the middle of the run and watched it to the end. There are episodes that I get a chuckle out of and one of them was when Beckett went into a wrestler to prevent his brother's death and being a wrestling fan still to this day, I always seemed to remember seeing Scott Bakula take on Terry Funk. I can only imagine what it was like to meet him. One episode I remember anticipated seeing was the JFK episode and wondering how they would tackle that subject. Overall, it was a part of my childhood and thank God I have a chance to revisit whenever I want to with this set.

What is the aspect ratio of this Blu-ray set? Is it still 4:3? Are there any audio/video sync issues?

The only problem I have with the recent mill creek blu ray releases like this is they don't port over any of the special features from the origanal dvd's. so far I've got the Miami vice, Airwolf and Knight Rider releases but had to keep usually the first disc of the DVD sets witch contained all the features so I could sell the dvd's to anybody as complete also all these blu ray sets have the disc stacker cases witch I'm in the process of replacing.

Great review, do you happen to know if this release is region free, don't want to risk buying if it isn't

i've been longing to see the series return. i couldn't wait so i did a sort of parody/fan fiction known as 'budget leap' featuring myself, steve mitchell as the main character with roxie hanson as the observer. for the 30th anniversary i'd like to get sam to go back in the accelerator to help 'steve' out 1 more time, and then he can leap back home while steve keeps leaping. for now. perhaps i could leap into some people sam leaped into before, like jimmy lamotta.

That's why I usually import shows from the UK or Germany, if said show had music replaced like 21 Jump Street or even Booker to name a few.

I didn't know it was on BR so I can't make any comparisons but I loved the series back then and been watching reruns now. Heh, and

great review... last time I checked this late morning the blu-Ray was at a all time low price under $50 on Amazon (Great series grew up on it the dvd's were massive disappointments due to the music being replaced... Have had the set for a while just haven't had the time to even crack 'em open and watch it (As a whole the series is close to perfect there are maybe 20 averages episode I honestly hate the final episode just because it's a strange downer ending it's a real shame they never made a TV movie for better closer to the series I know there are books one I still have it's actually very good haven't read it God in 25 years.... Have you watched 12 Monkeys the tv series or Continuum both series are phenomenal and hands down the closet thing to Quantum Leap except both newer series are dark and have very deep social commentary

Why did they only time travel back to the 1950's, 60's and 70's for the most part, only two episodes are before the 20th century?

Seema pretty cheap, around 36 dollers (38 with the tax) so it's not going to rape my wallet if I buy it.

The Lee Harvey Oswald thing REALLY bugs me. Ugh. That episode is Quantum Leap: The Movie to me so the fact that it's split up really stings.

Also I'm pretty sure the Season 5 theme was always a little off balance with the visual. I remember that from TV. I think that version of the theme just doesn't fit the flow of clips as seamlessly (well that and it just plain sucks compared to the original).
