Regional authorities in Russia have confirmed the death of two pilots during a mutiny by the Wagner group of mercenaries last weekend.

The governor of the Pskov region Mikhail Verdnikov said in a video address on the Telegram messaging app on Tuesday that two helicopter pilots were killed by Wagner fighters.

The mercenaries shot down at least six Russian helicopters and a military communications plane as they advanced on Moscow, killing at least a dozen airmen, according to Russian news reports.

The Defence Ministry didn’t release information about casualties, but Russian President Vladimir Putin honoured them Tuesday with a moment of silence.
