Judge Newman was far and beyond any judge I have ever seen in action. He was calm, resolute, respectful and kind. That set the tone for the courtroom, the jury, the attorneys, and the trial. I would be honored to call this man a friend. South Carolina is lucky to have him. I wish him only the best in his retirement years. I understand he had just lost his own son a couple months before this trial. I can only imagine the thoughts going through his head in learning that Alex Murdaugh killed his own son. Geeez.
