Covering the top three reasons the ATF is at your door. It's an uncomfortable question: why is the ATF at your door? The ATF often comes into contact with law-abiding gun owners, and many gun owners find them at their doorstep. Whether it is part of a lost or stolen gun investigation, a private sale of a firearm gone wrong, or suspicious activity-no one wants the ATF to visit them at their home. Armed Attorneys Richard Hayes and Emily Taylor cover the top three scenarios where they see the ATF is at the door.

Don't answer the door.
Don't talk to these criminal thugs.
Never answer questions.

I say all law enforcement interactions should be handled with legal council because cops are literally trained in sociology and will literally make you incriminate yourself you should always have legal representation

Our laws were supposed to be basic enough we could represent ourselves. Here we are where unless you went to school and studied law you're at a major disadvantage

It's not because of alcohol or tobacco

You tell law enforcement they are trespassing and if they suspect a crime they can go get a warrant. You don’t willingly open yourself up to a warrantless search for them to find something else you may have or maybe doing wrong. You definitely tell them you’re contacting an attorney if they refuse to leave.
Giving them the private information on this if you purchased a firearm or more in a single transaction or several transactions with a week or month, is helping them to break the law in collecting data for a registry.
Always get, give and keep receipts and always refuse to answer questions without legal representation.

I had it happen to me, a few years ago. A Glock I hated was stolen from the shop I sold it back in exchange as part of the cost of a used and worn 1911A1.
The ATF called and asked me if it had been stolen. I told them I had sold it to a FFL. A few days later they showed up and wanted to see other firearms I had purchased. After a few minutes of Why on my part. I got aggravated and told them "Come back with a warrant and contact me through my attorney" I called a local attorney and he said if they came back call him and he would Bill me but he was right they were just fishing.

Here's a good one for all.
Had a Walther pp stolen out of my car in 06'. I'm in CA. Reported it stolen, got a phone call from my local police 7 years later. The gun was found in Texas. Both police departments, Texas and California went out of their way to return the firearm to me. I was very surprised. Still have the gun today.

They just completely didn't address how the ATF knew what firearms you have, since they're no supposed to have a database of firearms owners.

It’s concerning that the ATF knows how many of what caliber we are buying! So much for the “no gun registry…but please put the serial number on the 4473. No particular reason!” 🙄🤷‍♂️

When dealing with any Federal LE agency, tell them that you want your attorney present.

If you make an error in your answer they can file obstruction of justice charges against you.

Martha Stewart went to jail for Obstruction of Justice, not insider trading. It's a much easier charge to prove.

For the first one, what happens if someone is buying some firearms for just target practice or re-enactments?

People need to realize that when the ATF shows up at your door just because you bought multiple guns in one purchase you don’t have to show them jack shit. It’s not illegal to purchase more than one firearm. Come back with a warrant or don’t come back at all

Atf comes to my door, I refer any and all questions to my attorney. I don't deal with fascists. They need the black Hugo boss uniforms they wore in Germany.

If they can't keep a registry, how would they know how often you're buying guns? They don't process your NICS, the FBI does.

The only mandatory reporting is by the dealer if you buy 2 or more pistols on a single transaction or within a 10-day span.

You could buy 1, 000 rifles in a week and there's no mandatory reporting.

Call the cops and let them know someone is impersonating a federal agent because they can’t sent someone to your door with no search warrant. Even then I’d call to have them authenticate the interaction.

1. Gutless Americans REFUSE to fight for FREEDOM
2. Compliance with TYRANNY.
3. APATHY

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen."

Samuel Adams
