According to reports, U.S. is finalizing plans to send a Patriot missile battery to Ukraine as it comes under increasing attack from Russian drones and missiles. But experts warn that the Patriot is not the right missile to defend Ukraine. Former military officials with knowledge of the Patriot system sau that it will be effective against short-range missiles and represents a strong message of U.S. support, but one battery isn’t going to change the course of the war. Watch this video for more.

The Patriot suffers a similar problem to that of the F-35 jets, they both need large numbers of support staff and require large 'down time' to remain in-service. A while ago it was claimed F-35s needed 40 hours maintenance for hour's flight and that was from US sources. I doubt RF are going to give Ukraine time and space to keep the Patriots in service, remember how well the Patriots defended Saudi oil terminals.

It should also be wisely noted that The Patriot missile batteries are stand alone systems designed to work independently: NOT as a KEY component part of a region wide fully integrated Air Defence Network!!
For this fundamental reason, The Patriot cannot even compare, and thus isn't in the same league as Russia's S-400 (which is specifically designed to work seamlessly within an aforementioned Network!).
Furthermore, when The Patriot was first deployed in Real World action it could scarcely intercept 2 out of 10 targets, and isn't currently a great deal better!....This is precisely WHY more & more non-NATO/US client countries are choosing Russia's S-400 over America's far inferior > more antiquated, and less sophisticated Patriot system!

Patriot missiles defense will not change anything significantly in the battlefield. If Russia destroys patriot defense system, US will lose customers for this particular platform and whole world will know the uselessness of US patriot air defense systems. US also should be ready to lose its personnel manning this system.

Patriot is a point defense system that can protect a small important area but to do so requires several missile systems and is only effective against IBMs, aircraft, and possibly cruise missiles but not low-flying drones that its radar cannot easily detect and which attack in swarms of five or more - the patriot system in Saudia Arabia failed to defend a Saudi oil refinery against Iranian drones fired from Yemen so there is no reason to expect it to do any better in Ukraine. It is also not easily moved to as soon as it switches on its radar it becomes a target for the Russian loitering drones that have been taking out the US-supplied counter-battery radars. So this is just another puff piece to keep the corruption money flowing into the pockets of Congressmen via the military-industrial complex.

So much touted about these missiles, it’s time for real testing!
Why countries not excited about this technology and pursue acquisition?
It’s yet to prove its worth!

They sending 8 patriot systems. 1 battalion using 8 to 10 systems. In order to protect Ukraine you need at least 10 battalions.
on top of that 1 missile costs between 3 million to 6 million and its super time consuming/hard to produce.
The system must fire 2 missiles at a target, so Ukraine will fire around 8 million dollars worth of missiles to down 30k drone?
On top of that Patriot system is super hard to move, little damage to do will get it out of service.
and you need highly qualified people to operate it, Americans who firing it need at least 6 months of training before to even get close to that system.
