My dad was raised Catholic. When his family immigrated to the US, he was super jealous of the Black churches, where he could hear people singing and having fun rather than dying of boredom in Catholic mass.

I'm not an atheist, i do believe in a god, i just don't believe in a religion in particular, i used to have a religion, which was Islam, but since it was forced into me and I got manipulated into it by my parents, i don't want to follow any religion, and all because of trauma-
So yeah...i don't think i want to have a religion ever again.
Especially since I'm LGBT+ and most religions are against it, so I'm good, without any religion just vibing that all i need !

My husband recently left the Roman Catholic Church for the Episcopal Church. I think he enjoyed their Easter Service way more than he ever enjoyed a R.C. service. (Exception possibly being the Easter mass he attended in Las Vegas during his bachelor party weekend.) Everyone was singing, all the kids got to go put flowers on the cross, and there were several jokes before the official service, and oh boy did our rector decide to call out the 2nd Amendment folks for caring more about their pew pew makers than kids. Even as an atheist, I enjoyed it so I know my husband did.

This will follow this man for the remainder of his days. I feel really badly for the poor guy. I truly do. That doesn't mean that I won't send this to a few select friends on Messenger though, lol. Poor man. You know that 50 years in the future, that moment, that single moment, will suddenly pop into his head and cause his entire body to cringe hard enough to make people think that he's had a seizure.

Aw man, our parish in Pico Rivera, CA had the whole band. I played guitar with them for about a year.

Not all churches are like this, but this one had community events regularly and was very warm and inviting.

My friend who's American hates going to the Protestant church here in Sweden cos she's used to the preacher walking around, engaging with the congregation, making the sermon personal. Here they tend to stand behind the pulpet and just drone. I'm an agnostic atheist (raised Catholic) but I feel her on that one....

I grew up protestant, my father always looked down on catholicism one of his criticisms is confirmation had no choice as it was done too young. Yet he bullied his children when they were fifteen to take communion eith the usual 'my house my rules' rhetoric.

I started going to Catholic Sunday School when I was about 4 years old, followed by mass then regular public school during the week. I think I worried my public school teachers when I started talking about virgins, wombs, crucifixions and "thou shall not commit adultery or thou shall not commit murder" at 6 years old 😂 at that age, I didn't realize not everyone spoke "Catholic language" and how weird it was for a kid to learn that stuff

The thing that made me an atheist was the constant use of religion as an excuse for hate. I stopped vibing with Christianity when I really started to think critically about how religion fuels division and how hateful people can be in the name of their gods. I know it's not all religious people but I'd rather avoid it all than associate with an idea that people use against me. There are good Christians, there is no good Christianity.
