The song is actually a tribute to his parents, who died at a young age. They always believed in him and expending his borders and thats what he's doing now.

Joost Klein dedicated this song to his father, who died when he was 12 years old due to cancer. His dad taught him that the world has no actual boundaries. His mother died a year later, when he was 13, due to cardiac arrest. Before his dad passed, Joost was already writing all kinds of stuff and promised one day he was going to go to Eurovision. He has gone through so many challenges in life, and it is a true inspiration to see how he deals with them.

Joost became an orphan at a very young age. His dad (papa in Dutch) told him there would be a Europe for him without boundaries for him, and we are all the same (only some habbits might be different). The end part was a confirm to his dad that he was right about that.

As said before: Little bit of background on Joost. He was creative from a very young age and also a bit different. His father said that there are no boundaries and he should follow his dreams. They always watched the Eurovision Songfestival together so as a kid he replied that his dream would be to go to the Eurovision Songfestival. Then his dad passed away when he was 12 and his mother when he was 13. For inspiration and acceptance of the loss of his parents he travelled trough Europe. Therefore he sings that the pain and emptiness stayed with him no matter where he went. He paid for mental help but it did not work for him. Still he managed to be a very positive and joyful person as reflected in this song. He sings about the song Papaoutai from Stromae that is also about missing his father. In all of this he managed to combine lot's of cultural aspects of different European countries and the Netherlands. Without the layer of his personal life you will notice that a lot of elements can directly be related to the European countries. The young boy and the old man represent him and his father struggling trough life and his father being an example for him. The final emotional scene represents him as a kid and his father when it all ended, the burning of the family photo and the building represents that you need to move on in life and not get stuck in the past. In the end he tells that he listened to his father (there are no borders for your dreams) and refers to him going to the Eurovision Songfestival.

I think this song is so special because it shows everything that Joost Klein is. Whether he wants us to let loose or cry. He gets everyone involved. Everything he makes is very unique and every now and then it comes very close to his own feeling. Joost Klein, droom groot!

This song / performance is like a time machine back to the nineties where everyone is invited and welcome to party and enjoy the happiness we've seem to lack these days.

TRANSLATION OF THE ENDING BELOW!!!

What he says roughly translates to

‘At the end of the day we’re all just people, my father used to tell me it’s a world without grenzen (grenzen, means borders but it also translates to limitations). I miss you everyday is what I quietly whisper, see dad? In the end I always listened’ referring to the advice he gave him.

He always told his parents who both passed he wanted to go to Eurovision and now he made it, taking after his fathers advice not to feel limited since the world is beyond limitation if you’re willing to work hard for it.

I actually can't believe they did a happy hardcore song, growing up in the Netherlands I went to so many parties like that! ♥️

Dont worry about the ending, as it is actually meant as a positive thing. Accepting things and leaving them behind, moving on. He held the promise he made to his father (being on this stage) and therefor he can leave it behind and move on. Glad you enjoyed it, as many seem to do. Joost!!

he wrote this song on behalf of his father and mother (especially his father), who both died when he was a little kid 💔

Joost lost his dad to cancer when he was a teenager +/- 13 years old, and his mother died from a heart attack a year later.

""Those who laugh the brightest most always have the heaviest loads they carry around, where ever they travel that backpack of experiences is always there, they can't escape from that, be as free a spirit as you can be, respect your elders, don't waste your time, and an ode to his dad credo""borders are stupid"", and Ubuntu(*)""
This sums up Europapa (papa is Dutch for Daddy) for me, it is true Art and a masterpiece by Joost (Joast) Klein (kline).

(*) Ubuntu (Xhosa(a South African tribe language) for "we are all as one"") is the most prolific, important, eye-opening, life-changing word I have learned in my 58 years of being an earthling.

Ubuntu to you, fellow earthling :)

Btw Klein means small in Dutch.

Joost Klein, dream big
