I just went on the Shop Channel today. You can’t download anything new, but you can still download titles that you previously paid for. Also, the Wii U Transfer Tool and Skyward Sword Patch are still downloadable for free. They may not stay available, but I made sure to download that shit just in case. Hell, I don’t even own a Wii U or Skyward Sword.

Wii don’t want the Wii Shop Channel to end.

I'm angry that they didn't just move the WiiWare to the eShop, but I can't help but feel sad about the Shop Channel's closure. The Wii was my first system, so I can't help but feel like an era has ended. Sure, the Wii U has more stuff, but It will never replace the Wii that my dad got me and my sister on that Christmas all those years ago. It's become dirty over the years and lost some flaps, but I still use it as much, if not more than my laptop, 360, or One. It was my first, and it will forever have a special place in my heart. It shaped me into the person that I am today and introduced me to countless people and friends. I could go on and on about my Wii memories, but I'll end on this: The Wii was a revolutionary console that will never be forgotten. It brought people together of all ages and backgrounds. I will forever cherish memories of the system, and I hope that others have memories that they cherish as well.

They should've allowed you to get games for free on the Wii Shop's last day.

It’s a shame that the Switch in 2019 pales in comparison to the virtual console on the Wii. The Wii had the best selection of classic games ever, in a convenient easy way to purchase and play. What do we have on the switch in 2019? Well we have 20 something nes games that yes a few of them are good, but let’s face it, most are not something I would buy on my own. Also I should not have to buy these classic consoles from Nintendo and have cables and wires everywhere to play retro games. These games should have been made available on the switch along time ago and I am getting tired of waiting on Nintendo.

It was expected...

But not allowing people to legally get retro game while deleting rom hosting sites is a problem

what I find annoying is the fact that the Wii Shop Channel lasted way longer than the DSi Shop

Yikes, nintendo just ruined the digital download industry. All the people saying we could lose our purchases at any time (digital ones).. Nintendo literally just proved it. I am buying physical games only from now on

I wonder how much it did cost to keep the Wii and DSi shop channels and how much it would to keep the other online services on the Wii, DS, and DSi.

The Wii shop first next the 3DS Shop. Just give it time. Watch!

I remember. It's just sad. I didn't even get any Virtual Console games on a Wii. But the only down side to Virtual Console NES games is that they look darker than they're supposed to. Similar to Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes! 😬
I've heard about Nintendo preventing Retro preservation from watching"Let's Imagine a world without Emulation" and about Disc rotting? Is that possible?

This is why we need to stop pushing digital games. As soon as that digital shop is gone, so are it’s games. This is why an all-digital future for games is a terrible thing.

A while ago when this was first announced I did straight up redownlaod every single game to an SD Card and moved the backup on my pc. I may have spent a hundred or so £s on Wiiware alone and I’m proud to have owned many virtual console and exclusive Wiiware Games it was the best feature of any Nintendo Console Period.
