You're 1000% right. I am a video editor. I do offline creative editorial, so I don't need the power of a Mac Pro, but also the Mac Mini was too limiting. I have been using Intel, non-Pro iMacs since 2012. And while serviceable power-wise, I have always hated that I couldn't customize the display and I was paying for features - like internal speakers - that I would never use. I've always longed for the power of a 27" iMac in a Mac Mini body and that is essentially what Apple has delivered here.

I will not be mourning for the 27" imac or the iMac Pro.

Agree with your basic point that there was a a big whole in the line especially for those of us who need lots of screen real estate. And the vertical monitor is invaluable for anyone who does document editing and crafting as a significant part of their job.

I totally agree with you. When I had an iMac 27 and it got old and was not supported it became a boat anchor on my desk and it all had to be updated. That's why I like this Studio lineup. I picked up the Studio Monitor that I will use with my MacBook Pro 14 and if I wanted a desktop, I would look at the Studio Mac. This way, you can upgrade one component down the road when they get old not both. With this concept and with them removing the iMac 27 from the Apple store, I don't know if the iMac 27 makes sense anymore, but I could be wrong.

I agree and I traded in my Mac Mini M1 and got the Studio Max and now I just swap out the box and everything else remains the same. Sweet dreams of having a beast of a box now that meets my requirements

Good points, Andrew. I am going with the M1 Max Studio version, its cheaper that a MBP and more power than I will ever need. And to your point, I can select the monitor I want and configure it the way I want. Headless-Mac…I like it!

Andrew, I little disappointed you didn’t spec out your version of the Mac Studio. Which configuration are you going for and why?

Agree with your points. though I think that apple should give at least the M1 Pro to mac mini, so the mac mini it self won't be so cheap among the other

I’m buying one, once I have the money. Hopefully it’ll serve me well for several years.

I've been rocking a 2014 iMac 27" and wanted to upgrade to the M1 chip – but the Mac Mini wasn't convincing enough. So happy I waited for the Mac Studio to fill in the gap.

Describing the machine as modular is a bit incorrect. The only thing modular about it is the fact that you can “a la cart” a monitor, keyboard, mouse of your choosing but that’s basically it

Two days ago I pulled the trigger and ordered the Mac Studio Max with only one upgrade over the base model, the 1TB storage option. I'm moving up from an M1 Mac mini (16/512) and figured I would just double the memory and storage. I don't need this much power but my reasoning (rationalization?) is that I'm going to be seriously future proofed for a long while. BTW, I like your content and presentation style so I just subscribed.

I’m getting the Mac Studio for my work in photography, along with the Studio display . I only wish Apple provided more options for the display sizes (the way it introduced the Cinema displays 20/23/30 inches back in the day), say 30”/6K display along with the 27” that was introduced?

Andrew your voice got deeper, and your voice still sounds like it has a de-esser on maximum settings on it

If they do release a 27" iMac, it'll probably come with the M1 Pro since that chip isn't available in any other desktop they offer. As an all-in-one, it's less likely to eat sales of the headless Macs.

So in the end, it'll be:
Mac Mini (M1) headless
iMac 24" (M1) AIO
iMac 27" (M1 Pro) AIO
Mac Studio (M1 Max/M1 Ultra) headless
Mac Pro (???) headless
+ 3 portable Mac laptops (ranging from M1 to M1 Max)

As a music producer I am excited to purchase but will wait until all the kinks have been solved this will be very affordable for a ton of musicians.
