You NEED to run this shop vac Pre-filter

Pre-filters not only prevent the dust from getting to your actual air filter (saving the replacement), but it also keeps that fine dust from your lungs. The biggest bang for the buck is buying two of them so you can clean one while the other is in use. Shopvac air filters are expensive, these will pay for themselves within two bucket empties.

Skimmer socks for pools work great and they're like 30 cents each. I also use them when I circulate vinegar though my on-demand water heater. You can also use them on your spa filters.

You’re better off to get a shop vac bag that you can toss at the end. Shaking it off out side is just letting you breathe everything you’re trying to collect. Also run a cyclone on a catch can to get the bigger stuff first so only the fine dust is going into the bag and the your filter at the end is getting all its nothing.

I run bags in my newer Rigids, but my old one doesn't have a flange for a bag, so the pre-filter is a must.

Get amazon vaccum bags. The prefilter cloggs too much. I do run a prefilter but also the bags. You will be able to suck up 40lbs of drywall dust my way. Pre filter alone, you're lucky to get a couple of pounds, and you're also beating the shop vac motor up. Time is money. No washing and easy cleanup. Also, depending on how ofter you use the shop vac a bag could last you a year. I use my vac for woodworking to media blasting muscle car parts, so I've pry experimented with this at least 500 hours to come to this conclusion. I also used quality pillow cases with a zipper and made my own attaching device to the inlet. That's for media blasting cause I reuse the blasting media a couple of times.

Would a fabric drain filter sock do the same thing? Obviously there would be some particular nuances with whichever sock filter you chose but overall the same effect? ✌️
