wow -cad e70 sounds great - I'm MK416 user and I'm very impressed! - (still not switching though.... the 416!)

Strange... I just bought my microphone and have no need for another one. Yet I think these videos are so entertaining, that I insta-click them to see what's new on your channel.

Thanks for these comparisons, "mic" DelGaudio!

I liked a friend's E100 so I picked up an e70 on a lark. LOVE it. Sounded fab on whistle, flute, guitar, even (male) vocals. Now I want two

We use a spaced pair of omni mic’s for recording recitals. Different brand, but omnidirectional is great for recording acoustic music in a concert hall.

I have an E70 they sent me for free after having a lot of issues with an e100s (5 or 6 years ago). I tried to like it, but I found it much too noisy. Glad yours works much better, Mike (and Mike).

I'm so happy you covered the NTG2. I was looking into it and now I can tell it just wont be right for me.

I watched this on my phone, which I know is not a good idea, but I did. I was actually able to tell the difference between the CAD and the Rode. The rode sounds so much more "digital". It sounds like you're talking through a phone. I need to watch this later on my computer, so I can listen for the difference between the CAD and the Sennheiser. As usual, good comparison!!!

So... THANK YOU MIKE!

I watched this video and was astounded by its sound. I then got on eBay and found one. I threw up a bid on it and WON!

I should have it this weekend. (Talk about excited!)

Wow, the CAD really sounds a lot better than the Røde NTG2 in this comparison. I'm actually a bit surprised. I've seen the NTG2 reviewed well other places. Admittedly I haven't gotten great results with my own NTG2 either, though I suspect most of the problem there is the room.

CAD is one of the best kept secrets in industry. I have a CAD e100-2 (sadly discontinued) that sounds awesome with a double bass. I call it my secret weapon. If you are curious, I recorded Masa Kamaguchi's double bass using it. Albert Bover Trio, "Bilbon Bizi Bizian".

Even I heard a clear difference when you used the NTG2, and I'm on speakers now, not headphones. Good speakers, but still (Presonus Eris E5). And not a fan of how it sounded really.

Thank you Mike!
The E-70 sounds like the response is fairly flat. Your voice is natural, without sounding peaky. Typical proximity effects from any cardioid. The NTG is unfortunately has an unflattering response. It sounds thin, and accentuates a "head voice" unpleasingly. Too bad, though good to have heard the timbre on your demo. CAD Equitek is a good line, with some very decent quality for the money. We bought an E-100 and an E-300 when they began making them. Still have a 100 in the locker. Great stuff!

Hey Mike. Have you thought about using solid ice blocks in an open cooler? Inside that enclosed space it could make a big difference as a short term cooling solution. Only catch is how to dump the water. If you can run a hose to a floor drain and keep the meltwater from building up that would make it as effective as possible at cooling the room.

Great comparison video. Back in the 70s, Altec Lansing introduced the 626A mic. It, too, had dual mic patterns. Great mic. Not impressed with the Rode either, but CAD does get one's attention.

Gee, I wish you had demonstrated the omni capsule and the high pass filters on the CAD product. That matters to many of us. Also, you might consider getting a Delrin or Nylon or ... ugh .. plastic tipped tool to access the recessed switches - shoot, even a toothpick should get to them without scratching your demo unit. I appreciate how nicely you take care of it, but if that does not get the click, the paint job is a problem! Happy days - good demo, just wish you had gone the extra mile to demo the omni capsule which would more fully explain the differences to novice users, which is your target audience. Just saying. Thanks - have a great day, old man. JT

I think the E70 sounds really nice. I've started using an AKG CK93 (small diaphragm like the E70) for livestreams and recording on an overhead boom and I think it sounds great! So much so I actually bought a 2nd one. You don't see them talked about anywhere though.

Thanks a lot! I was debating to whether get the NTG-3 or the Deity as an on-the road mic so that I won't risk breaking my MKH416 "like I once did last year"! Well, after this video, it's going to be neither. I'm going for the CAD E70. That was really helpful. Thanks again.

the ntg2 gets destroyed by the cad e70, that's nuts. Man I'm so glad you do these shootouts.

I own a Rode NTG2 and I it. That e70 made me very jealous. Luckily I switched to a Lewett 550 and a little Blue Spark SL for voice over and my life has massively improved. Really embarrassed of the Rode NTG2 audio. Recorded one of my biggest projects on it, and wish I had the new setup at the time. I'll never use it again unless it's a wrestling match or an on camera interview.

The Oktava mk-012, for about $200.00 is also a good alternative, sounds better than the RODE NTG 2. Watch out for E-bay counterfeits in regards to the Oktava!
