The answer to your question is yes, we are that stupid. We as a species cannot grasp the concept of a looming threat and can only care about what we can get right now. This is exactly why I've given up on there being any solution to this climate change issue and patiently wait for the inevitable demise of our civilization.

Its not so much that carbon emissions from factories and cars are causing the worst of the climate change, it's actually the US's livestock. I watched a video not too long ago and i can't remember the exact figures, but if I remember correctly, vehicles emit only about 4% of the worlds carbon while livestock emits around 28% - about 1/3rd of all pollution.
