The ULTIMATE comparison: SE Asia Vs Central America

One of the questions I get asked the most is where is the ideal first backpacking trip. Most people will tell you it's either Central America or South East Asia.

In this video I'll give a complete breakdown of which region is for you, having visited SE Asia in 2023 and Central America in 2022.

You seemed to focus on Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam for SE Asia. For outdoor pursuits, there are actually a lot to offer in SE Asia. You can go snorkelling, diving and surfing in Thailand and Malaysia. You can go hiking up mountains in Malaysia (Mt. Kinabalu and Gunung Mulu national park). You can explore the caves. You can also go white water rafting. You can visit volcanoes in Indonesia.

How are the hostels compared? I've travelled throughout SEA and loved the hostels there, i do like the more 'luxury' hostels tho, curtains & AC is quite a dealbreaker for me. How would you say they compare?

Is it way harder to meet people in Central America than in SEA? Asking bc I've been to SEA and it was so easy to meet ppl since everybody is going out and traveling the same route. Cheers!
