Fun fact: those “seeds” on the outside of the strawberry are actually called achenes and are smaller fruit on the strawberry that have seeds inside them.

To anyone who is curious, the juice comes out of the strawberry due to a cell process called Osmosis. The high sugar concentration outside of the strawberry cells pulls the water out, which is also what causes the strawberries themselves to shrivel.

I made this in a bowl with blackberries, milk and sugar. But, I would put the bowl in the fridge for a couple hours. Then mashed the berries and eat it with a spoon. When I was pregnant it was something that I craved. That was in 1979. I haven’t eaten anymore since then.

Ive made it for years with strawberries. But I put it in the refrigerator overnight instead. Then use it to make strawberry shortcake. Pour the juice on the bottom cake, add a scoop of ice cream, then more of strawberries. Delicious 😋 you can add whip cream if you like.

Just a heads up to anyone who doesn't have a week to wait for strawb syrup, if you slice the those berries thinner you'll get syrup in a few hours/overnight.
