I don't know about everybody else's experience but where I live when it drops down the two bars it becomes useless I heard rumor that there was supposed to be an update for to help improve that problem but I have not seen one as of yet or I'm not looking in the right spot

just decided to purchase one a couple days ago. if you live in a rural area, or just outside of town forget about it. the download speed i get is only about 42.5, the upload is like between 3 and 5. i went to use the phone app to find the best spot in this place, the app said not in a supported area!. but when i signed up using my address the email said "yay youre in." so disappointed and not for sure what to do, probably end up returning the router.

Thanks for the great information. I just got my Gateway setup a few days ago. I knew where the nearest tower was so I sort of knew where to put it in the house and point it. But just a few inches movement could change my bands. So I found a place where Primary is usually B2/B66 (4G LTE bands) and secondary is either N41/N71 (5G bands). And in most cases bars are 2-3 bars, occasionally it might blip up to 4 bars. But as you mentioned that does not always mean better speeds.

Best combo for me is when it connects B2/N41. When that happens (and it changes without me moving the unit) then I can get speeds in excess of 400 down. When it is B66/N71 then I am usually in the 100-200 range.

One question I have though is that my Upload stats just plain suck. 7-12 MBPS. Have not figured out what to do to drive that number up. But frankly for me it may not be a big issue. But hey bigger is better.

Also what do the channels mean. And what would changing them generally do?

Another thing I saw from another video is that inside the can are 4 rows of antennas. So I found a place and rotated the can and checked the bands and did speed tests until I found the placement that seemed best.

My T-Mobile web interface doesn't look like yours at all. It just has two icons in the left margin (Home and Support). No configuration settings at all. I have the 5 Gateway large tower.

If T-Mobile would tweak the firmware and add in some much needed features such as bridge mode, we could enjoy a better experience. I can no longer access my surveillance system remotely due to the limitations withn the firmware. The only way to potentially circumvent this issue is to use a VPN, but from my testing, speeds really suffer even with the new Wireguard protocol. I turned off all of the wifi radios and went with my own router which did help the gateway to run a tad bit cooler. I'm not an engineer or expert in design, but the new gateway is very strange especially when all of the antennas are contained within a gray aluminum cylinder. I mean it does work of course, but I think they should at least redesign the shape and incorporate external antenna inputs which could help with connection speeds and strength as well as broaden their customer base.

Cell Mapper is a crowd-sourced app it only shows data for what someone has seen and uploaded to the map. Also for 5G it only shows the Standalone 5G tower shading as the phones don't report secondary bands so there is far less info for that as it is rare for someone's phone to connect to the SA antenna. That tower definitely does more than just the hwy.

I’ve had my gateway for a few days and speeds are hovering around 30 down and 10 up. I did get up above 100 a few times though. I have a mesh router arriving today, hopefully my signal improves. But after having a 10 by 1 DSL connection from AT&T for over a year, the difference is already night and day at my house.

Thanks for these videos Triple M, someone may have already asked this question, T-Mobile shows that I’m in their 5G ultra capacity and I’m curious if you are as well and if you think it helps with the speeds you’re getting.

Hi Triple M, Ive just recently purchased the 5g home internet fron T-Mobile and I have question for you. Do you have a 3rd party router connected with the t-moble home internet base? If so, what kind of router is it and which router should I look for? Also how should I connect them?

Mine has been perfect for months then this last week the 5g completely stopped working and the speeds plummeted

Can anyone tell me why my online interface doesn’t look like his? All I have is a list of Customer support numbers, no setting, or statistics. This has been my biggest complaint about T-mobile internet.

Looks like we're neighbors. I'm over here right on highway 27 at Rolling Ridge RV park, across the road from Bee's RV park. I just got my Gateway and I'm only getting 5 to 50 mbps. It ranges throughout the day as traffic picks up and slows down. I downloaded a tower locator app, but yours looks like it works a lot better than mine. All of my stats are about the same as yours some better and some less. I can't seem to get any better speeds, even after installing an external antenna.

What antenna locator app were you using in this video? I'm thinking about upgrading my antenna but want to confirm which antennas I'm connecting to.

Why T-Mobile assigned a subscriber line to my TMobile home internet? Is that for sim card in order to work with 5g?

The signal isn't only available on the highways. It's green there because that's where the tests took place. People in there cars
