I have noticed my boy (8yrs old) has bad tamper since he started to play game on grandparents phone on the weekends. He said he would rather stay with grandparents in summer holiday than go on a beach holiday or a city break in Japan. His mood was getting out of control. Phone is like a new drug for the kids these days in my opinion. Now I have decided he go on different sports and classes every single day. So he has less time to think about games and phones🤭 He still watch YouTube and stuff but only on smart TV. His mood got much better, and he has more interests in other things in the real world. I don't mean to keep him like this forever but at least he can build more curiosity and have fun before he has a phone one day

My six boys didn't have devices until they absolutely needed one. They survived. They're doctors, lawyers, engineers, and computer scientists.

Problem is the train has left the station for our society. My rising 3rd grader won’t have a smartphone or be allowed on social media till high school but she will be in minority. Wish me luck

I ended up retiring early, my principal was pushing me to have the children on tablets and to teach using a smart board. I was teaching kindergarten These tools are very beneficial with the children or an upper grades, but not early education.
It's a song born to have other children learn to play, interacting with others and making discovery on their own.

There's a sign I posted where I taught: No Phone Zone. Phones had to be off or stored elsewhere.

Parents CAN parent. If your kid says "Everyone's doing it" you can say "Well, I am only responsible for your well being." My nieces were the in the minority of kids who didn't have social media and cell phones (they had the gizmo) in middle school. In response to their 13 year old daughters saying "I am the only one, " their parents cared more about my nieces' health. Now in high school, my nieces are so engaged with friends (who are lovely), sports (lettered freshman yr), activities (volunteer, etc), and academics that they are choosing on their own not to be on social media.

Most people drive their kids to school. I don't understand why they need a phone to begin with. There's never a moment where kids have unsupervised play, this is a relic of the past. The 80s born Millennials were the last to have this kind of childhood and there were no cellphones for us. Our parents just had to accept the fact that they couldn't constantly monitor our every action. It's excruciating for parents to know that, but it's also just a fact of life. That's why people say it takes a village to raise a child.

Both parents are working and everyone is living for themselves. No one is paying attention to children anymore.

Couldn't it be addressed by the parents not buying phones?

Oh for the days when a phone was just for talk and not a hand held computer

This is so did you need this random author to say this. Oh and why did the study drop off at 2019 and didn't go through covid. Get it together folks. This shouldn't need to be told to a parent.

I don't think his solution goes far enough. I say no smartphone before 18. Get a simple flip phone for your kids

parents are to be blamed, not the kids...

@Jenna: You really needed research to find out smartphones are no good at any age?
