My brother was physically and mentally abusive. My aunt had the audacity to say well that’s your brother he crazy but he deserves to know your kids. Same for my other siblings. I said hell no, it’s my job to protect my children’s peace and their life wholeheartedly. I will not subject them to the abuse I encountered. Sometimes it’s lonely but I have peace.

Mother of the bride wants you there to “co-sign” that it’s ok. Show everyone that’s it’s ok. That her daughter isn’t a disappointment. People are ok with hurting you as long as they aren’t getting the short end of the stick. Kick them to the curb. Cut them off.

As a child, I was molested by my mom's brother. My family was aware of it, and honestly, my dad was the only one who "took up" for me. I don't condone violence, but he whooped my uncle some kind of good! On the other hand, my mom and her mom (my grandmom) said that I HAD to forgive him and most of my childhood, they MADE me be in his presence. When I moved away, my Mom would constantly give me (unwanted) "updates" on him and when I told her I didn't care, she would counteract by saying, "I know what he did to you, but that's your uncle and you need to let that go." Tuh!!👀🤔😒 I never forgave him because I carry those memories daily, although the hurt isn't as painful as it has been. When he died, I felt absolutely NOTHING...no sorrow at all and did not shed a tear, and most definitely didn't go to his funeral! For many who are like me, "Family" is overrated! I am all about protecting my peace, energy, and sanity and I'm very selective on who I give it to..."family" or not!
