Not all Christians will have the gift of tongues, that is not biblical. Read the whole chapter of Corinthians again. Paul spoke hyperbole. Furthermore, gifts are not given for self. They are for others. And absolutely nowhere is edifying yourself a good thing. New agers can speak in tongues, so did the prophetesses at delphi near Corinth. If God is more important than your "gift", then I challenge you to pray and ask God to remove it if it's not of him. Earnestly and wholeheartedly pray it!
