All-new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe Review

In a world where no niche is left unfilled, BMW has had to come up with a rival to the Mercedes CLA and A-Class sedan and the Audi A3 sedan. The easiest solution seems to have been this, the 2 Series Gran Coupe - a 4-door version of the 2 Series.

It is essentially just a 1 Series with the boot, meaning it runs on BMW's new front wheel drive platform. But having tested the new 1 Series, we've found that for most drivers, this won't even be a consideration.

No, buyers interested in a car like this are not searching for exciting cornering abilities, they're looking for practicality, comprehensive tech, a comfy ride day-to-day and of course a premium badge on the nose.

So we forced Ciro to put his consumer journalist hat on and give us a review of the new 220d.

I work opposite a BMW dealership so I've seen them quite often and I have to say that it looks better in the flesh.

That said, it's still not going to win any beauty contests. I just cannot believe BMW execs saw the clay model and thought this is the design they could come up with.

If the previous Gen 1series was in desperate need of a facelift soon after launch, so is this 2GC.

the gap between the bottom of rear bumper and ground is atrocious

It's actually looks much better in person. I have seen 3 on the road and it's not that bad.
CLA looks way better though

I have seen two, one in black and the other in blue and the cars look good in the flesh. BMW X6 is a good lesson here. Most people (including myself) says it is the ugliest thing ever that only mother BMW can love but sales numbers are saying otherwise. At the end the numbers will speak than our own opinions.

Thank you Ciro for your honesty. Of all the reviews I’ve watched on this Gran Coupe, all the motoring journalists praise how this car looks. For me, they are just afraid of being brutally honest and just mention that the rear end is where BMW went wrong. I’ve driven one this past week and hell yeah, fantastic car to drive! It’s really going to take time to get used to how the car really looks, the only disappointments with it is in the looks department and price point. This is car expensive and rear-ugly ☹️

I’m a BMW fan boy but on this car they missed the plot. It just doesn’t look like a BMW. And it’s unbelievably expensive

I've forgotten why I watch your videos, whether it's for the reviews or the comedy I can't remember. All I know is I keep coming back!

I see BMW has taken the Honda approach to this car, extremely practical but not much car for aesthetics! The only problem is Honda's are at least priced well, probably explains why I'd buy the Civic if I was in the market for a this sized car. The Civic also looks great so that's a plus.
