Steam Trains At Speed On The Mainline - Volume 3

It's that time of year before the main steam season begins, so we once again sit back and enjoy a selection of Steam at Speed in the UK. Filmed across the country, 11 locomotives are seen operating up to the maximum allowed for steam '75mph'.

Foot note:
Diesel locomotives "Tail Gunner"
The use of Diesel locomotives on some tours is because of operational reasons. Some of the tours run to destinations with no turning facilities, so the diesel hauls the train to a location where the steam loco can take over again. They are also used for train heating, assistance on steep gradients(especially during leaf fall season)and are a great help if any problems arise with the steam loco.
Most Diesels used are interesting machines in their own right too, with most of then now over 50 years old, some even 60 years old now.

Excellent locations! Perfect photography! The engines showed how it's done! Don't really mind some antique diesels. The usual high standards from 04Clemea. Thanks!

Only Clan Line consistently performed without a diesel on the rear!

I would love to travel on a Steam Train before I die, I have always loved the the smell of the smoke when I watched them from a bridge....

Fantastic video, the sound of a steam train passing at speed always brings a tear to my eye, as I was too young to appreciate them when they were still in service. I was going to ask a question about the mismatch of numbers on the loco in the section from 2 mins 53 seconds where the caption says '45699 Galatea Great Strickland', but now understand that in 2021, 'Galatea' was disguised as 45562 'Alberta' and 45627 'Sierra Leone'. It looks as though the loco was in transition as it has 45627 on the front and 'Sierra Leone' on the nameplate but 45562 on the cab!

Completely unfamiliar surroundings as I live in the very southern portion of New Mexico USA…
However steam locomotives are the same worldwide, beautiful sounds and smells.

Although I admire the quality of this video, I find it so strange that, in a country so seemingly obsessed by climate change, steam trains are still allowed to operate. Is there any negative popular feeling about the operation of steam trains in the UK?

CWR ruins the effect we, of a certain age, remember! The passing of trains used to be exciting. The noise was deafening; clickerty clack and loose fishplates clattering made it so much more exciting!

Will 34081 92 Squadron and 34072 257 Squadron be able to run on the mainline in preservation?

Those steam engines are allowed to run on the mainline in Britain but except for the 9Fs and the WD Austerity 2-10-0s
