How To Get Rid of Mould

Hiring a professional mould remediator isn't always an option, especially for renters. In this free clean, we helped a lovely family who had extreme mould in their rented home. In this video, I show the exact method and products that I use to clean up the mould and make this home more pleasant for the family to live in whilst their landlord hires professionals to fix the flat’s structural issues.

It's upsetting to know that landlords just don't care. You are an angel for what you're doing!

That is so beautiful that you helped this woman. It’s heartbreaking her babies were living in a home with so much mold. That can cause such health issues! They probably suffered from sinus and respiratory problems. What a difference you guys made!

It simultaneously breaks my heart to know that this woman and her children were having to live like this because of awful landlords but warms it so much to know about you helping her ❤

Instructions for those who don't want/need the backstory:

*WARNING: THE AFOREMENTIONED PRODUCTS ARE NOT TO BE MIXED AND MUST BE SPACED 12-24HRS APART! CLEANING YOUR BATHROOM WILL TAKE AT LEAST THREE DAYS. PLEASE WEAR MASKS, EYE PROTECTION AND PPE WHILE DOING THIS, ESPECIALLY WITH CEILING MOULD!*

Equipment needed:
- PPE disposable suit
- Fixed eye protection
- Respirator masks
- White vinegar
- 3% Hydrogen peroxide
- Bleach Based mould spray
- Sandpaper
- Plaster (for cracks/holes in walls)
- Damp Seal
- Primer
- Anti-mould paint

First treatment: White vinegar spray.
- Equip PPE (Masks, resperator, eye protection, suit)
- Clear room of any/all objects

- Spray everything down with white vinegar and leave the room for one hour
- DO NOT WIPE UP DRIPS. DO NOT DISRUPT THE COLONY!
- After an hour, wipe up the vinegar & mould using cheap sponges using circular motions
- Once you're done wiping, leave to dry for 24hrs.

Second treatment: 3% Hydrogen Peroxide.
- Equip with PPE
- Take 3% Hydrogen Peroxide and spray the same areas as before
- Leave the room for 15 minutes
- Come back and wipe down all areas
- Leave the room to dry out overnight/24hrs before using the next product

Third treatment: Bleach based mould spray.
- No instructions were given as to what to do with the bleach based mould spray aside from spraying affected areas to brighten and remove any remaining stains while killing any remaining mould on surfaces
- If you have any cracks in your paint/wall, fill and sand them smooth as possible
- After go in with a damp seal and primer undercoat to cover affected areas (Again no instructions as to how long to wait between coats. Ask a retail worker at the hardware store or follow instructions on the tin.)
- Follow this with anti-mould paint

Disclaimers:
- Mould will come back even after doing these treatments.
- You cannot know how deep the root system goes without professional tech
- To kill mould permanently will require the work of professionals
- Keep humidity low with dehumidifiers to prevent/slow down the mould's return
- Work on improving the ventilation of such spaces
- Do not lie about not having a mould problem when/if you get a professional to come and install a fan or any other work needing to be done as it can physically harm them to breathe it in + it'll spread spores throughout your home.

The level of mold in these rentals is absolutely heartbreaking, these landlords are disgusting beings. I remember hearing of a case in the news where a little boy died because of the state their flat was in. And the mother has been campaigning for change. Just makes me so upset that the nasty landlords can get away with treating people like this.

I’m a mold expert and bleach should never be used on mold despite it being a common and popular method. It causes the mold spores to bloom and spread into the space and it will always grow back. It’s actually the last thing that should ever be used on mold. Hydrogen peroxide is a solid option. Microfiber clothes should be used and then discarded as soon as they are damp…so you go through many of them. The small fibers on them allow them to pick up mycotoxin spores which are very small.

Your cleaning videos are the only ones I've found that make me actually want to clean the areas of my house that have gotten out of control. All these clean with me videos and I swear they clean the area before they shoot the damned videos. They're wiping nothing. Thank you for all that you're doing for these people! You're a gem and God bless! ❤

We want more please! I love how you explain things. I’ve just been cleaning using a bleach based mould remover and the mould just comes back a month later. I’ve invested in a dehumidifier because of you, and found that my unit was averagely above 89% humidity 😱. I did tell my landlord about the mould, but any removal of it would be charged to me 🥲 so your vids are life-saving and wallet-saving too!

I know it may not have fixed the underlying problem, but you did an absolutely amazing job at that cleanup.

Bea your an absolute treasure! The hero renters need out here! I’m so freaking lucky to finally have my own house at 43 and not have to live in these places anymore but I did! Used to have a biscuit tin my bedroom to catch the dripping when it rained and no matter how often I complained it wasn’t properly fixed. When I moved into my house it needed just a little work on the roof and it was remarkable how cheap it was to get it water tight! I just kept thinking why couldn’t my landlord do that? 🤷🏼

I used to have a mold colony like that on my last apartment and use a really similar method, but I was missing the hydrogen peroxide step! And it’s absolutely true, you can kill the colony but if you don’t attack the root cause a new colony will grow back after a few months, been there :( thanks for the video!
