When I do quill or boot bodies I add just a tiny amount of zap a gap to the shank and wrap. It helps hold securely and adds some durability. Sometimes I’ll cost the body in a watery UV (CC Hydro, Loon flow, etc). It makes the segments pop and adds even more durability

AK Best has a wonderful book on dyeing n bleaching your own quills.. Also stripping them in a manner that. Reduces the fragility that ripping the barbels from the feathers premotes.... Also a method of wrapping 2 quills on larger flies that builds an underboby that is far more proportionate to the flys natural counterpart
