The New York Yankees are as iconic a franchise as exists in North American sports; a history dominated by names like Ruth, DiMaggio, Gehrig, and Mantle. But for baseball fans of more modern times, no name says Yankees quite like Jeter. From his beginnings across the river in New Jersey, to his Hall of Fame career as a Bronx Bomber, and now a baseball executive, this is the story behind Derek Jeter.

crazy how identical his career is to Kobe's in the NBA from being drafted in 96 to winning young and their last game being a memorable ending. RIP Kobe.

Another reason he's a Yankees legend: His #2 was the last single digit number to be retired. The others: Billy Martin(1), Babe Ruth(3), Lou Gehrig(4), Joe DiMaggio(5), Joe Torre(6), Mickey Mantle(7), Yogi Berra(8), Bill Dickey(8), Roger Maris(9). That is absolutely Yankees legend status.

He has the best memory of anyone I've ever seen, they say Greg Maddox can remember signing an autograph in 1997 today, he wouldn't sign for the same person twice, could be bullshit, Jeter signed 16 baseball cards for me in Savannah Ga when he was 17, he played for the Greensboro Hornets, from what I've heard, he would remember me today, I sure wish I could ask him, he was by far the nicest kid on Earth, he didn't have to, he stood and talked to me for a good 12 to 15 minutes, if I live to be a 100, I'll never forget it, THE CAPTAIN

Jeter is someone I wish I appreciated more when he was playing in his prime, I used to hate him because of the Yankees

Any chance that a "The story behind..." for Ichiro will eventually be in the works? Would really like to see your take on his journey

For the fans who think players are over included...this guy jeter earned his ...I’m not, never was a yankee fan but, jeter is and was a player that never layed down even when tired on the field....A TRUE ATHLETE AND PROFESSIONAL...HARD TO COME BY THESE DAYS.

Ewww the fact Jeter has something to do with baseball and it’s NOT part of the Yankees is an absolute sin.

As a Giants fan, Buster Posey always reminded me of a Diet Jeter. Derek Jeter Jr. 😅 That’s what I hoped anyway!
