Thank you very much. I'm learning from the wilcoxon book and solo 3 got me confused until I found this

Yes, it absolutely does help. I’ve always approached the second example as a closed drag into a 5-stroke roll

I didn’t realize the drag was added into the roll I practiced both ways but I always thought it was a drag then the 7 and just played like a 32nd trip. Thank you for clearing it up.

Croaker Brush Box - Rare Woods Edition with Bendid Strings ... I had to look it up. (Fantastic lesson, btw)

this is a great demonstration and something i wish was around 10ish years ago when i first went through this book. thank you! thinking back to then, not really knowing what the difference was, maybe counting one of those on-beat triplet-based 7s "1 tri-pu-let 2" etc (after you've counted it "1&2"etc would be helpful in providing a little more clarity and parity with how you counted the sixteenth note version? Feel free to disagree but just throwing it out there! Thanks again, Tim

I find at faster tempos it’s also okay to play them all as 32nd notes. The tempo is it just too fast to be able to play them as 32nd note triplets.

great lesson! one question: should the two first strokes of the second example (notated as a two grace notes) be played differently then those in the actual roll?

Hi Tim. Do I get it right that the one on-the-beat is diddling the sextuplet?

Thanks and clear description! Yet this still doesn't explain the odd 7 stroke variation of solo 84, 2nd bar, count 2. Considering this stroke starts with a drag, I would think it's played as straight 32 notes as your 2nd example. Yet the sticking is misleading as the eight note (2é) starts with L therefor suggesting a roll starting on the beat as sixtuplet like your 1st example. Yet the preceding drag lacking a sticking is a bit confusing. Could this be a typo in the sticking or actually a drag preceding the 7stroke sixtuplet (RR drag + LLRRLL R seven stroke? Any one any clue. Nerding out on this one

I must admit, although yes, I am trying to get back into being a decent drummer, I clicked on this short video just to see what drum pad you're playing on.

Is it an actual drum pad?
