Learn All 40 Drum Rudiments:

The six stroke roll is a fun rudiment that is a hybrid of the single and double stroke rolls. It starts with two double strokes, then ads two single strokes at half the tempo, and then repeats with the alternate hand leading into the entire pattern. The change from doubles to singles really breaks things up and makes the pattern great for fills around the toms.

As a seasoned drummer, I’m glad to see that this drummer understands the theory and practice of rudiments. In another video a guy played the 6 Stroke Roll. He stated that you could move the accents around and the rudiment would be the same, which is not correct. The moment you do you’re playing something different.

So, there are few discussions on this rudiment that show both the “standard” way with the singles at half the value as the doubles AS WELL AS the variation of using 8th note triplets. The triplets are very cool. You can also play it as 32nd notes preceded with (2) 32nd note kicks or some variation of that. You could even do it as a 16th note fill starting on the & of three.

Call it what ever you want, 6 stroke roll and it does not matter what it is called Just play it like this guy has just explained, utilize it and make it work in a song . Re : comments about 'this is not a 6 stroke roll ..etc get a gig and play the drums and don't complain that the books did not make you a great player = just do it .No one can make you great . This was a great show explaining something called a 6 stroke roll and I LIKED IT.

I add an inverted six and then reverse the entire pattern for dimension.

It's easy to play and sounds cool at a fast tempo.

I used to play it RR LL RL. I guess it’s how you start.

Other instruction videos on the six-stroke roll I have seen don't have a pause after the first hit.
RLLRRL vs R LLRRL
Which one is the "classic" six stroke roll rudiment?
The second one (the way it is presented in this video) appears to be exactly the same as the seven stroke roll with the second stroke omitted, no?

I feel like this isn't properly spaced. The gap between the first and second hit should be the same as between the second and third, as well as the last and the subsequent first. It's not PA, diddle diddle PA, PA diddle diddle PA; it's one and-a two and-a one and-a two and-a

I have practicing rudiments[buddy rich book] standing up on my legs with a pad and it has really improved my control in unusual ways with the sticks and for some reason when I sit on the drums and use the pedals -play drum kit, my feet seem more in time with my hands? I FIND IT HARD TO PLAY STICKS WHILST STANDING BUT IT SEEMS TO BE IMPROVING ALL OF THE LIMBS WITHOUT SPENDING MUCH TIME ON THE FEET . An unexpected result. Why is this?

Can you add a flam for either one or both of the singles? I know that would not make it a stroke roll anymore
