I recall once just displaying an image of the Windows 3.1 splash screen on a Windows Phone (back when those were very briefly a thing) and it was enough to fool some co-workers into thinking it was a hung installation.

There was a time that software manufacturers tried to make their software as functional and versatile as possible. During the last decade this has totally changed to a policy to restrict as much a possible. Adding functionality is trivial, but all effort is put in allowing exactly what the manufacturers wants and restrict everything else. This it true for Windows and Apple. I am happy that Linux still adheres to the policy to enable as much as possible.

Michael…you have a great voice for these kind of videos. This was hilarious and I loved your persistence in not giving up

As I remember, back in the day we used to copy the contents of all the disks in one folder and then type Setup.. it won’t ask for disks. I don’t recall if we used to put the contents of each disk in folders or just all of them in one folder though.. man you brought me back 30 years 🥲

All I can say is, as a person who started on a homebrew 6502 system and worked my way thru a variety of DOS versions on PCs, this is totally amazing!!! What a fantastic project!

I just got this video shown in my feed. I have no idea how but I watched this entire video on something I have no clue on and no special interest in. ADHD to thank. I really like how each problem along the way is shown and explained and also the solution is very simply and immediately highlighted. I just love we all watch you complete something we think 'would be cool to do' 👌🏻👌🏻

This was so fun watching you do this! It must have cost you over $60.00 and you do it for us. Thank you for the entertainment, Michael. Really. You are underrated and deserve more subs! So this is a sub for you! ❤

The most amazing part of the video is that floppy disks that are over 25 years old still work just fine. I seem to remember hearing they would last 5-10 years. All six of them beat the year range (well, five because he didn't actually use the sixth disk).

I read the title and was very shocked that this was even possible.

People had fun so naturally Apple removed it. That's usually how it goes with iOS.

I can't even believe you were able to do this! Windows 3.1 was the first OS I used as far back as 1992. It seemed so modern at the time, until Windows 95 came out. I love this retro stuff, being able to put that on an iPhone 11 is very COOL!

Had a good laugh while MJD covered the history of this app. I remember a year or two ago Apple couldn’t stop running ads about how “oh iPad is a real computer, get rid of your computer ‘cause iPads are the future!”
Meanwhile we won’t let you run a sandboxed application that uses official Apple APIs and requires that you supply all your own files.
Gotta say a little prayer to OSS and indie developers, ‘cause just imagine the computing hellscape we’d be in without them.

Probably one of the cleanest ad transitions I've witnessed

Man, that tip to restore previous purchases was a great find. I now have it on my phone again! I remember all the hoops with him signing me up as a beta tester to get the file sharing, so yeah. Windows 3.1 will be installed!
