Classical computing is based on only 2 states -like a switch - on or off i.e. 0 or 1. Logically states of 0 and 1 are represented by a variable we call a classical bit. Physically 0 and 1 is represented by high or low voltage or charged or discharged capacitors and useful operations on them can be done by circuits / gates constructed by semiconductors. Its the useful operations of binary addition and few other similar operations where "computing" is realised.
Coming to quantum computing the unit on which we operate is called a quantum bit or a qbit. The way it differs from a classical bit is that it can be in a super imposed states of 0 and 1. Util classically measured, we can't say for certain that its value is 0 or 1. In the quantum realm we have circuits which can operate on a qbit and allow us to utilise its superposition quality to give us a different type of computing and arrive at very interesting results.
