Top 10 Strangest Failed Archetypes in YGO

In Yu-Gi-Oh there are winners and losers, and I’m not just talking about players. New cards constantly enter circulation, adding new archetypes and revitalizing old ones in the hopes that they might see competitive viability. Over the decades, Konami has left us with some pretty weird groupings of cards, and we’re running down 10 of the bizarre archetypes that failed to leave a real impact on the competitive scene. But before we really kick things off, I want to qualify that I only wanted to include archetypes with a significant amount of cards on this list - sorry Aitsu and those other guys.

One of the craziest things about Ghostrick monsters is that they are NOT flip monsters, so they can't even take advantage of the flip support that exists.

I faced off against someone on Master Duel called “I Skip Your Turn” and he genuinely full combo’d, ended on The World, and skipped my turn

I'll take a strange bad archetype over a good homogeneous archetype we've all seen before. I'd rather have an archetype have an actual identity like Super Quantums over some generic slop of search, swarm, spam.

Ursarctics is the champion of this to me: Draw 7, Field-Spell Fusion, and “Dark Synchro” Lv1. It’s one of the most unique decks that could’ve been way more fun with a better set of support.

Another big negative towards Ghostricks was the introduction of Link Monsters. It's hard to get your win condition going when some of the most common monsters that your opponents can summon are monsters can't be flipped face-down

As a Duel Links player, what I got from this is that Duel Links skills should promote more bad decks into being workable/good.

My favorite thing about Destiny Board is selectively swapping between OCG and TCG arts in non-consecutive zones to spell funny things, or in digital games modding in original art swaps. As some examples, OCG's D E A T H can be rearranged as HATED, or TCG's F N A L and swapping the I with OCG's E can give you "AN ELF"

Solfachord is just more proof that Konami doesn't know Yugioh players don't read.
When theres a text wall, we have the tendency to suddenly become illiterate and choose to crash into it, consequences be damned.

I played Solfachord 100% seriously for months purely because a player told me the archetype was garbage and I wanted to prove him wrong.

And I did. Multiple times.

Ursactic and Solfa are some of my favorites but they can't hold a candle to even 5Ds era cards... To not speak of how dirty F.A been done

I actually used Ursarctic and Solfachords in Duel Links. I like both archetypes. They're fun to play.

I like that usrarctic tried to make Dark Synchros a thing. I really wished it was a real thing like it was in the anime.

Honorable mention to Laval.

Laval Volcano Handmaiden can miss timing. One of the most important 3-ofs for the engine can miss timing.

Solfachord and Vaylantz have such a huge advantage. They are so complex that most people either refuse to use them or don't know what they do. So for those who do know how to play them, they can win. What you're opponent doesn't understand, they can't prevent or stop.
Solfachord and Vaylantz have some really cool effects.

combining the B.E.S archetype and the oitsu archetypes with new support to make a parodius archetype would actually be so dope

5:09 Ah. Ursartic AKA "So we got Dark Synchro in the form of this deck instead of retraining a deck from 5D's' Dark Signers? Aka, the ones who actually did Dark Synchro?"
7:09 shout outs to Duel Links, and Yusei's "Bond that Illuminates the Future" skill that became the Ursartic skill

I like the Solfachords; there were one of the first decks I tried to make in Master Duel when the game came out. I'll also readily admit that the Solfachords themselves don't really do much to stop your opponent from doing anything.
I hope this doesn't mean that some of these archetypes aren't getting their own Failed videos.
