Want to save money, reduce clutter and have less anxiety about all the stuff you own? Stop buying things you don't use or need!

There are lots of reasons to purchase things. It is a great deal, I might need it later, the store is going out of business, it is a limited time offer.

Store offers and deals come around weekly, monthly and quarterly, but once you purchase things you can either use them or store them.

I am all for buying things that you use now (even if you pay a few dollars more), rather than purchasing items and storing them for a project that is years away.

Yes - there are exceptions - Holiday items that are 50-70% off. Unique and rare items that you have wanted for a long time and collect. I get those that. What I don't get is just buying things because they are neat and interesting when you saw them and then getting home and storing them never to use again.

Quick facts and notes:
a. Recent studies (2023 & 2024) note Americans spend $150-$314 a month on impulse buys. So on average $2,000 - 3,000 dollars a year! (This is just impulse items not planned purchases.)

b. It is estimate 6 - 12% of the items Americans purchase are NEVER used!!! And another 4-8% off all items purchased are under used. (Meaning we use something once or twice and never use it again because we don't like it, forgot about it, or found something else. This is billions of dollars wasted!

c. 50% of the population carries a credit card balance so that great deal you bought - is actually a financial burden that is costing you your hard earned money!

d. Clutter often causes anxiety and stress, so by having less things you are likely to be more relaxed.

e. Learning to say no and passing on trinket and novelty purchases early in life will pay dividends for a lifetime.

Basically buy what you need, when you need it and you'll be better off.
