Park Fire 30% contained; National Guard respond to help California firefighters

The Park Fire grew only slightly overnight to 401,301 acres and is now 30% contained, according to Cal Fire Sunday morning. The Park Fire is currently the largest fire brining in the United States of America as of August 4, 2024.

One hundred National Guard personnel arrived in the Northstate this weekend and will be deployed to mop up areas Sunday, which will allow other firefighting crews to be sent to more complex areas of the fire. More than 6,000 personnel are assigned to the Park Fire with additional out-of-state resources including help from Texas, Utah, Nevada, and Arizona.

The fire burned through the Ishi Wilderness area where the last wild Indian in America hid out, he wasn't discovered until 1911. The area is a lot of steep canyons, volcanic rock, etc. Very rugged terrain. Very primal area, untouched by human development. Don't expect Tehama County to help you, unless you know someone, it's all small town nepotism.
