Firefighters in the West are battling massive blazes in Northern California and Canada. CBS News correspondent Carter Evans reports from Alberta, where parts of the Canadian Rockies have been "burned to the ground," officials say. Also, CBS News correspondent Jonathan Vigliotti reports from Chico, California, as containment efforts for the 164,000-acre Park Fire fell back to zero percent, according to Cal Fire. Then, CBS News Bay Area meteorologist Jessica Burch breaks down how the weather will impact efforts to contain the fires.

CBS, it's annoying that you NEVER mention the PROVINCE of where these things occur in Canada. You mention the town, as if the majority of Americans are supposed to just know what Province the town is in. Canada is a BIG PLACE, separated by 10 Provinces and 3 Territories. It would be like Canadian news reporting on some town or city in one of your States, but not mentioning the State. You mention "Hinton Alberta" at the end, but you don't even introduce the town of JASPER as being in Alberta. Just pointing this out because it really is annoying.

This is what happens after decades of fire suppression. Fires historically aren’t his big and don’t burn entire forests down. Can we let the native Americans take care of our forests?

Still not getting it. Stop all development. Regulate fuel consumption and travel! Stop blaming everyone else! Not rocket science!

when you have to evacuate an area - turn off your gas-lines and electricity. Then maybe some extra fires won't start without the gas and electric added as extra fuel ---

In California homes must resist earthquakes, in Florida hurricanes, and in China cities build against floods. In Canada we build houses out of wood in forest fire zones, allow ember-trapping wooden decks, lack bylaws preventing combustible materials being stored against structures, or distances trees must be from homes. Many communities in the US build municipal golf courses as fire breaks and utilize their underground water storage if there's a fire. Not in Canada. When wildfire fighters hastelly install structural protections, it's basically sprinklers on rooftops. Anyone could do it in advance from home hardware, but nope. Eventually insurance companies will force change because we're too stupid to protect ourselves
