Cyndi Lauper released "Time After Time" on January 27, 1984.
Cyndi Lauper on The Tonight Show - March 1, 1984 performing it live.
(If you were in high school in the 80’s then you definitely had at least one slow dance to this romantic love ballad. This was the top hit on Lauper’s debut studio album She’s So Unusual. The song was inspired by her manager David Wolff.
Cyndi and David had been dating at the time. The line about the ticking clock is a direct reference to a clock that Wolff gave to Cyndi. He also makes an appearance in the songs music video.)

(Lyrics)
"Time After Time"

Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick,
And think of you
Caught up in circles confusion -
Is nothing new
Flashback - warm nights -
Almost left behind
Suitcases of memories,
Time after -

Sometimes you picture me -
I'm walking too far ahead
You're calling to me, I can't hear
What you've said -
Then you say - go slow -
I fall behind -
The second hand unwinds

[Chorus:]
If you're lost you can look - and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you - I'll be waiting
Time after time

After my picture fades and darkness has
Turned to gray
Watching through windows - you're wondering
If I'm OK
Secrets stolen from deep inside
The drum beats out of time -

[Chorus:]
If you're lost...

You said go slow -
I fall behind
The second hand unwinds -

[Chorus:]
If you're lost...
...Time after time
Time after time
Time after time
Time after time

Dear Lord, this is incredible. 40 years later and it still hits like day one.

I love Cyndi Lauper. Just look at her - no inhibitions, no insecurities. Just being herself. What a wonderful artist. Lucky to have grown up listening to her as a kid in the 80's ❤

Singing live, voice is up and front, no voice procesing, the band is great. Perfect!

I was in my 20's through the what an awesome time to be a young adult and those crazy nights at the club.
Looking back it was really a perfect place in time for me, I wish I could go back for a bit. Sadly, time marches on
and I'm now in my 60's but so glad I have my memories of that glorious decade... the best years ever!

She was a little girl on the couch, then became a woman with the microphone and then a legend. So happy to have lived through the 80s.

I would do anything to go back to the 80s and to live for a year.I grew up during those times.People growing up now have no clue how great it was to wake up and be excited every day when the world was a much better place.

There has always been something magical about her, like a pixie or fairy. a timelessness, which is probably why her music, her voice will forever be beautiful!!

Is there a song that represents a generation more so than this and purple rain? Throw in an Open Arms and you’re in a Time Machine. Such a great era of music.

the guitarist playing those improvised licks while singing is impressive, the drummer keeping the time without a missed beat eases my stress levels, the bassist is HIGHLY underrated, and Cyndi oh Cyndi... you leave me speechless
