As a grandmother we still love this song but my granddaughter simply adores Cyndi Lauper and dresses like her and she owns every single song Cyndi Lauper has made !!! I always loved this song. It has a perfect post-punk sound, and doesn't completely succumb to the pop sensibilities of its day. But listening to it today again after seven or eight years, makes me cry with the things going on in my life. This song in its original form, is ETERNAL. I've listened to quite a few modern pop covers of it, and they NEVER come close to it. Lauper's trembling voice, as if she's holding back a volatile storm of emotions with all her strength . . . the sad punk-ish guitar that sounds like a weeping thing . . . and the clock-like drums, all serve to get the ultimate point of the song across to us . . . LOVE the person(s) you have, as much as possible, because "there's never enough time to say the things we want to say, or do all the things that we wish. The key is to do the most with the time that we have, because suddenly, you're not there anymore."

I’ve suffered from depression since I was a kid. Unfortunately suicidal thoughts goes hand in hand. Some might think this is the wrong song to listen too. For me it was perfect, every time I feel like this, this is one off my favs. These feelings are going to be there, and this song makes me look at the things that are truly me. Not what is prominent, and is being blocked by my true me . Thank u Cyndi Lauper. Life is beautiful just like anyone who is reading this. 🙂💜

1982-89 this song and a few others are major contributing factors to having survived an abusive step father.
