I don't see anyone trying to "act". All I see is more and more and bigger bigger trucks and SUVs. Decadence in the face of such ecoside. Nobody tries to replace even the shortest trips with walking or biking as gas prices are at their lowest in history inflation factored. Suburban sprawl is accelerating, replacing millions of acres of nature with concrete and more emissions every year. And on, and on. All hope is lost and nobody cares, and certainly doesn't care about what legacy they leave. It's tragic.

To put it into concise scientific terms, we're cooked.

I finished listening to "Ministry of the Future" by Kim Stanley Robinson. Yep, it just warms up and we cook and no one changes their behavior. Be grateful for every mouthful of food and the land that can grow it. New York City is also sinking. It can only hold so much concrete, Donald.

Even a foot of sea level rise makes flood barriers like coral reefs much less useful against storm surges. Adding surge height will mean more widely devastation in coastal areas.

"The seas will rise. Within the next century and a half, they will rise over a hundred feet. Where are you going to live? What will happen to your ports and cities and your prime farmland? What will happen to the deltas of the world and the millions who live there? Who will take them in when they must flee their nation, unable to survive there any longer? It is this you must consider." [The Great Warning, 2015]

The US will try to frame and support pollution controls and environmental protection as a patriots' mission. Unfortunately many are unwilling to make sacrifices beyond the minor recycling and composting "efforts". Their tailpipes, diet, home design and other energy habits speak of another missing part of the ethic.

Advanced countries dished out 30 trillion dollars to sustain their industries, during COVID period they can easily pull together at least 35 trillion to mitigate climate change

1-3 meters of sea level rise by 2100. 10-20 meters by 2300 (IPCC). At current ghg levels that are still rising... Coastlines are doomed.

When I look at the news about the California fires and the floods in Asia and Eastern Europe, all I see in the comment sections are sympathetic people and people who say they're praying for the victims. Not one comment that says "Hey, guys, is this our wake up call?"

Geologist I've seen on Discovery channel said the islands in South Pacific are sinking naturally due to tectonic plate subduction zones.

So, when do women get a chance to run things? Oh ya, never! I'm a chick forest technician from Montreal, majored in Sylviculture, left my career over disgust of how things work in Québec, they know what they're doing, how to get people to care when they're too busy screwing up their own lives.

So much for China's commitment to change -- Just so much propadanda ---China has approved 218 GW of new coal power in just two years, enough to supply electricity to the whole of Brazil. Construction started on 70 GW of new coal plants last year, up from 54 GW a year earlier, with another 47 GW going into operation, up from 28 GW in 2022, the analysis said

If it takes 100 years for the sea to rise by one meter then nothing will be done this century.
