The saddest part is how the kid doesnt even get mad, he just reaches out to guts for comfort before the pain takes him

In the manga, Guts only sees a shadowy figure before realizing he stabbed Adonis. That makes his deed much more redeemable.

To be honest, the anime was brave to adapt this as well, but they made Guts look like an asshole.
In the anime, he clearly sees it's Adonis and runs at him anyway.
In the manga, it's shown clearly that he only saw the shadow of someone behind the door and rushed at him to make sure there were no witnesses, realising it was Adonis only after he stabbed him.

Berserk 1997 portraited this scene and how Guts looked afterwards so well. It may have skipped over some content but to me it was a very good adaptation

What honestly makes this scene sadder to me is what Guts does during the lost child Arc. Guts went from regretting Killing a kid to using one to kill an apostle(who was an abused child herself).

Guts really hit a low point after the Eclipse. Can’t really blame him all things considered but still it’s really heartbreaking.

This one scene, made me realize how real it went. I have never seen any animation involving children being killed off in a way, until my friend showed me Berserk. I was sadden and shocked.

this is the moment in the anime where guts learned that you cant give back life. your actions can sometimes have irreversible consequences. a lesson we all need to learn one way or the other

I didn't like the anime version of this. Guts first saw him and then acted like oh it was a kid. But in movie he was hiding behind the door and then striked him without seeing who walked in

Also Griffith's smile when finding out Guts killed both, he planned for Guts to kill both of them

I prefer this over the manga. Guts is not a hero, in fact he’s the bad guy in nearly any other setting. He is a soldier and his first instinct kicked in, regardless of what he saw. That’s the whole point of his character development in that arc, he wanted to change and fight for something he wanted, not kill for other men.

This was the scene that got me hooked. I remember watching and enjoying the anime but this scene just made think this anime is different ten years later and berserk is still my favorite manga
