I love the thought that if the US never united a conqueror (or multiple) would unite it anyway. I think that would definitely happen. Or at least to the extent that there would be multiple large countries

I like how fluid the borders were and it has a cycle of reunification and disintegration rather than just remaining as a steady amount of slightly larger or slightly smaller states.
